Which games would you like to be supported on the future?

All the inane chatter goes in here. If you're curious about whether we will support a game, post HERE not in General Discussion :)

Wow! This is some really impressive work, "The List" practically deserves a thread of it's own, possibly in the "Announcements" section. It really is incredibly practical to get a quick oversight of all that's been mentioned before. Many thanks for all the work you have put into this. Naturally, kudos also goes out to @Raziel, for the work on the original list many years ago.

It's also amazing just how many titles I have overlooked, that are part of the list. Yet, perhaps most surprising of all, is "The Detective Game", as mentioned by @Gatekeeper on the previous page. A game I think I've never heard of before, despite my years with the C64, despite always being a fan of the detective genré, and despite more recently watching:
https://www.youtube.com/@CheekyCommodoreGamer/videos , quite often for reviews of old C64/Amiga games. I would definitely like that title as well.

Nice work, I reviewed most of the list and I'd like to mention a few things:

These games are missing the wiki link:
carmen sandiego series
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?titl ... ego_series

dungeon master
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=Dungeon_Master

inca 2
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?titl ... mmortality

x-files
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?titl ... Files_Game

curse of enchantia
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?titl ... _Enchantia

lord avalot d'argent
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?titl ... d%27Argent

the forgotten
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?titl ... olis/Games

tonka games
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=Media_Station

Quantum gate 1/2
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=VirtualCinema

There's also a wrong link next to LBA2

The following games use Director (various versions) so it's a good idea to indicate the engine and maybe link the wiki
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=Director
frankenstein, opera fatal, physicus, the ultimate haunted house, nine the last resort, biolab, chemicus, Geograficus , jewels of the oracle, safecracker,
AMBER: Journeys Beyond , cosmology of kyoto, CSI, fisher price g.a., i spy series, madeline, master of the elements, mia's adventures,
mirage, mummy tomb of the pharaoh, pong-pong adventure, schoolhouse rock, secrets of the luxor, journeyman project, TKKG series, traitors gate,
ronja rovasdotter, isis

The following games IMHO should be moved to the "unlikey" list:
Warcraft Adventures - this one was already scrapped for legal reasons
Armikrog uses Unity
Omori uses RPG Maker
Dungeon Keeper is realtime strategy, very unlikely
War of the Worlds same thing, it's a strategy game
TV sports games - these are not part of the Humongous games, thus very unlikely
Wrath of the Demon - basically a scrolling plaformer

Brilliant! Will get on it.

I had opted not to include a link when games don't already have a ScummVM wiki entry, so for games like Opera Fatal (first one I happened to check when reading your post), I probably still won't as there's no page to link to, but I'll certainly add the engine. (edit: same for The Forgotten, and etc)

Funny about Inca 2, I was sure I'd put it in... clearly not! I suspect I may have lost a few links when reorganising internally.

About "unlikely" games, I think these could be moved to the main list:
Bad day on the midway is a Director game
Denarius Avaricius Sextus is from the same author of Lord Avalot d'Argent and relatively similar
GAG - There's a WIP engine, so it's not so unlikely (I never tested it, though)
ICB - WIP engine and it's partially playable
Koala Lumpur - same
KQ8 - There's a dev actively working on this (see Discord for screenshots)
Land of Lore 2 - The first one is supported, so it may be possible
Mortadelo & Filemon series - Dev actively working on it
Once Upon a Forest - As before, WIP engine
Synnergist - Other Access games are supported, so it may be possible

No one actually expressed interest in it yet, though, I think. Are you expressing interest on it right now? ;)

Post at viewtopic.php?p=101465#p101465 updated with extra entries / "votes" for:

The Detective Game.

Also, many thanks to tag2015, various corrections and moving some stuff around.

Having the explanation of why some games are likely to remain unlikely seems like a good idea.

here is some more fodder for the list :D

- Blackstone Chronicles - Legend Entertainment - 1998
- Callahan's Crosstime Saloon - Legend Entertainment - 1997
- Drawn: The Painted Tower - Big Fish Games - 2009
- Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy - Quantic Dream - 2015
- Faust (aka Seven Games of the Soul) - Arxel Tribe - 1999
- Post Mortem - Microids - 2002
- Samorost 2 - Amanita Design - 2005
- Shadow of Destiny - Konami - 2001
- Still Life - Microids - 2005
- The Book of Unwritten Tales - King Art Games - 2009
- The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 - King Art Games - 2015
- The Black Mirror - Unknown Identity - 2003

i also would like to add my vote to

- Black Dahlia
- Discworld Noir
- Les Manley: Search For The King
- Les Manley: Lost in L.A.
- Kingdom o' Magic
- Kings Quest 8
- Realms of Arkania Trilogy (Das schwarze Auge - Die Nordland-Trilogie)
- Return to Mysterious Island series
- Universe
and
- The Whispered World
- Edna & Harvey
heck, everything from Deadalic :D
(1½ Knights: In Search of the Ravishing Princess Herzelinde is already supported, using a different engine than the rest, i believe)

...and a question...regarding the following entries, aren't they also rather strategy than adventure/rpg/puzzle?
- Starflight series
- Wing Commander series

Makes sense to me. Moving them into "unlikely" where they are a better fit.

...what Raziel said in the post just above. :P

And I can't help myself any longer: I'm adding Yumemi Mystery Mansion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mansion_o ... ideo_game)) and The Mansion of the Hidden Souls (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mansi ... ideo_game)). We've got D, we've got Shadow of Destiny, we've got Scooby-Doo, "Mansion of Hidden Souls" fits well here. :)

Well, "Wing Commander" is labeled as Action and (Space Combat)Simulation. Though personally, I would argue that the series also belong to the "Interactive Film" category.

wiki description: "the term refers to a movie game, a video game that presents its gameplay in a cinematic, scripted manner, often through the use of full-motion video of either animated or live-action footage...........From the late 1980s, American Laser Games started to produce a wide variety of live-action light gun laserdisc games...........Some studios hybridized ordinary computer game play with interactive movie play; the earliest examples of this were the entries in the Origin Systems Wing Commander series "

Still, I guess that doesn't really change it's status as "Unlikely" in any significant way.

Ok, guys, about Zork Zero and other Infocom v6 games, here's the thing:

They are quite supported. Function keys don't seem to work, and I don't think mouse does either (not actually required for finishing any game), but they play, and play well, with the media. Haven't tried anything with sound yet, but the graphics work.

Thing is, getting it to work is not a ScummVM thing. It's an "interactive fiction and its community and tech" thing.

Basically, modern interpreters - including the one that ScummVM uses - like to have the entire game in a single file. All the multimedia, plus the executable, is in a "blorb", or ".blb", file. For Zork Zero, for instance, you can't link ScummVM to the original zork0 file as distributed by Infocom. The interpreter which ScummVM uses does not recognise its media package.

For some interpreters, what you need is to have, in the same folder, the main data file (.z*) and the .blb file containing all the multimedia. For the Infocom games, these are available at the interactive fiction archive, just the multimedia, without the actual game file. It is perfectly legal to download these, not warez in any way.

I don't know if this is enough for ScummVM, because I had already used a tool called Bamboozle to join together the .z6 file with the .blb file, creating a .zblorb file. This .zblorb file runs on ScummVM.

...I'm afraid that getting to know this type of thing is necessary to run .z6 games properly in most places. Many interpreters don't look at anything except the .z* file, so blorbing it all together is a necessity.

So I'm thinking of removing the wishlist entry for that particular one. It's supported. It's not obvious... but it's not obvious for anyone even in the IF community. I don't think this is something that ScummVM should have the burden of supporting or documenting. ScummVM is behaving like most other IF interpreters; and the de facto standard way to run these games in modern machines really is this: either you run the original game through DOSBox or another emulator, or, if you're using an interpreter like Frotz, then you have to go through all of this.

@ Peter Piers:

Thanks a lot for looking into this and the info. It's true that the game Zork Zero actually starts up and gets me to its known interface with the graphical stuff intact at first glance. And it did already when I mentioned it here. My data files seem to be recognized fine, they already are pre-prepared for Z-Machine intepreters and get recognized without error as "Zork Zero: The Revenge of Megaboz (393-890714/English)"

If you say there is no further problem along the way, then I agree with you the wish is already fulfilled and could be removed from the list. But I was reacting to the ScummVM error message I receive before the game even starts (I attached a screenshot here). And the scumm wiki also still states it's "not yet" supported.

So this is why I assumed gameplay may break in serious ways further along the way. But maybe that's not the case and the warning is all that's unusual about the Zork Zero performance within current ScummVM. If some dev maybe could take a look and confirm this at some point, I'm happy to agree with you and you can cancel it.

Ah yes, I get that too. But I get that with a few other games as well, mostly AGS. Not many but a few.
If you say there is no further problem along the way
Well, I haven't played it through. But it runs. I think this list is more for games which are currently not supported at all. Hmm, you make a fair point that the Wiki lists it as "not supported". That seems a good enough reason to keep it in here, then. :) At any rate, if we're going to have "Sherlock Holmes: Serrated Scalpel 3DO version" when the version technically runs (but not very playable) and the DOS version is supported, then yes, I think it makes sense to keep Zork Zero here after all. Cheers!

From rare adventure games, i remembered about Imperium Romanum for DOS (not confused with strategy game of same name), where music was composed by Manfred "Pink" Linzner of Abyss/Shin'en.

I have just realized the grim oversight of not including

Aquaria - 2005 - BitBlot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquaria_(video_game)
