Broken Sword 2 Cutscenes not working!! SOLVED!!

Post by MjW »

I've been trying for a couple of hours now to make the cutscenes work but no luck!

There is always sound and brings up the message :
Cutscene - Narration Only: Press ESC to exit. or visit www.scummvm.org to download cutscene videos.

I tried on two PSPs that are on 3.52-4 M33.
I tried with both 0.9.1 333mhz and the latest 0.10.

I downloaded the Broken Sword 2 Cutscene Pack (all languages, DXA compression) and
the Broken Sword 2 Cutscene Pack (all languages, MPEG2 compression).

I tried more than enough combinations that users posted like exchanging the audio between the MPEG2 and DXA compression and nothing worked. I also tried fiddling with the psp kernel but still no luck.

So if anybody has any idea that could be of some help that would be appreciated!

this might sound stupid, but where did you put the cutscene videos?

Well all the video and audio were originally in a folder named Extras. And this is the folder I have been working with.

as far as I know the videos need to be either in the same path as the data files (*.CLU) or if you let them in some other path, you need to use the "extra path" setting in the ScummVM setup to point to that folder for ScummVM to find the files

Gods. I would have never thought of that.
All I had to do was what you said.
I guess the cutscenes being a bit slow at some points is normal.

Thanks a lot man!!! :D

Since the moment when someone doesn't manage to do something and posts about it.

Just because this whole "extra directory" thing is intuitive to anyone who has experience with ScummVM doesn't mean all new users will get it from the start.

So I wonder, what is intuitive to someone who doesn't know about it? So I ask. Not more, not less. Just for my own curiosity.

Hey guys,

I have the same problem of MjW but instead for Broken Sword 1, but with the help of this thread I solve one of the issues.

I wasn't enable to play movies on my PSP, so I get the DXA pack and put them into CLUSTERS directory.

The game in PC works perfectly but when copied to PSP, the only thing missing are the sound in the cut-scenes. Does anyone could help me out? I already try a lot and also try to solve the problem before asking something.

Also, I have the Soldout DVD version which came with both Broken Sword.

The only directories I have now which got the game running without sounds on cutscenes only are:
CLUSTERS (*.clu, *.rif and DXA pack files)
MUSIC (*.wav)
SPEECH (*.clu)

Thanks in advance and hope someone could help me out with this.

Ah, I have cfw 3.71 m33-3 on my psp.

The DXA cutscenes come with FLAC audio, which is not supported on the PSP port.
To hear audio during cutscenes on the PSP port you'll have to copy the .ogg files from the "old" MPEG2 cutscene pack.

Yeah, thats all I needed. Many thanks for the help joostp ;). The SCUMMVM is better instead of the broken sword PSX to PSP conversion.

Now I can remember my old days playing this game in any place, work, bed, etc..

Once again, thanks for the help and for the great work we have in this port.
