How to check resources?

If I'm doing a remake, but don't have the rights for it, I should make the new game check that you have the correct resources (and not take any money for my version).

How to check correctly if you have a sci game in drive?

Maybe check for existance of resource.xxx files through md5sum?

And all distributions have exact same resource file right?

Distribution as in
- different versions of the same game (DOS, Windows, Mac, Linux etc.)...then most probably yes
- different games, then most probably no
