Why would you need obsidian pearls? You'll need orichalcum beads :)

obsidian is a real life mineral (gem?) - there's one in kyrandia for example

The Wikipedia article on the subject describes it as "a type of naturally occurring glass, produced from volcanoes", and has a couple of pictures of it.
