IIRC, Mike Legg (lead programmer on the Kyrandia series) told me that the EoB games are not built on the same engine as Kyrandia and Lands of Lore. But I suspect they share many similar technologies since they're all Westwood and from roughly the same "era".

It's all called "Kyra" in ScummVM.
