use .jpg or .png instead of .bmp for screenshots?

is there any way I can make SVM save my screenshots as .png or .jpg without manually saving/converting them to my desired format(s)?

Not as far as I know. When the screenshot hotkey was originally added, BMP was selected because that's something that the SDL library has built-in support for.

DOSBox has got PNG support so maybe you could check its source for that feature.
