Re: DW Mac demo extracted

Post by gonsalet »

Bug report submitted:

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=d ... tid=418820

It's true that it's more of a feature request, but there you go... =p

Well, I was very glad to find out you have such a cool demo repository going on here. In this day and age of Internet ubiquity, I was surprised to see that those old Discworld demos had all but disappeared, so it's great to know they are now here for everyone to find! And I'm sure there's other demos on that list which would be difficult to find if it weren't for it. So hey, thanks to you!

DW Mac demo: newly converted file set

Post by gonsalet »

Just wanted to point out to the admin of the robertmegone repository, if he sees this, that dw-mac-demo-en.zip should probably be replaced with a new set of converted files which can be found in:

http://www.speedyshare.com/files/256102 ... mo_raw.zip

There's three folders inside that zip, and the one containing the best (raw data) set of converted files is "discworld_raw_data" (the other two folders can be ignored).

It seems that's the only set that contains all the full files from the Mac version (the one before wasn't properly converted...).

On the other hand, maybe there's no need to rush and upload this set yet, because maybe in the next few days we'll have more info to see if that's really a working file set.

More info and updates in the related bug report (same as before) at:

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.p ... tid=418820

EDIT: Reuploaded by request:

http://www.speedyshare.com/files/263068 ... w_data.zip

EDIT: As you can see in the next post, sanguineheart was kind enough to upload the last set in:

http://demos.robertmegone.com/tinsel/dw ... emo-en.zip

I know this isn't on the list, but I noticed that the Let's Explore the Farm demo that we have right now is a really old version. It dates back to before the game was even released. Here's one from a year later:

Just figured might as well have it there.

Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo Windows French demo
(Pouce-Pouce Sauve la Zoo)

And here's a video I did on it:

Also, something that's been bugging me is that the Link for the french demo of Puttrace is broken.

Sorry to mention this again, but..... if anyone ever comes across a CD/FTP/site/whatever containing a PLAYFATE archive with data files that match what's in this post, then do let me know. I'd appreciate finally seeing an original archive of this forgotten revision of the demo again. :)

For history's sake, this is Web Archive's capture of the FileLibrary.com page containing the archive. The date stamp for playfate.zip pretty much matches the datestamps for the data files in my archive linked above. This still drives me mad to this day!

Strangely, everything else run by Channel 1 Communications is still active, and the WhoIs information for FileLibrary.com indicates it's still owned by them. I've tried the one e-mail linked to them a long while back, but everything I sent got bounced back. My only other solution is to try and long-distance call their phone number, but I'm not sure how well that would work and if it would seem odd of me to ask them about their defunct service and (possibly) ask for one specific file from them. Is it worth a try?

You could help us out by providing details on why it doesn't work and what happens by creating a bug report, you know.

Don't worry, Kirben has already taken of it! :D Next time though, I'll be sure to do that, now that I know what I'm doing! (I already knew of several aspects of the engine that I needed to know, but not a all of them!)

Also, I know you requested to do this a long time ago, but I totally forgot about it. The Let's Explore the Farm demo on here seems to be an extremely early version of it, so here's a later version:
speedy. sh/YfU8R/FARMDEMO.zip (remove the space, because it kept identifying my post as spam)
Sorry about how long this took to get re-uploaded.
