Ace Ventura support

Post by meist3r »

This is just one of those stupid "Is there any chance this game will be supported" threads. Sorry for opening it. But I'd like to know: Is there a chance someday the Ace Ventura adventure game will be supported?

There's a chance. But I wouldn't hold your breath waiting on it. The adventure game is pretty uncommon so having a copy to work with is half the battle. I haven't seen it since my video store sold all their PC games (Crusader: No Remorse and Diablo were higher on my procure list than it since it wasn't that good a game to my way of thinking).

great game and the demo appears to be very informative when run through a disassembler, external libraries for different features of the game exist as dll files and many of the functions retain their original names. Im just got a full copy of the game on ebay.

maybe one day...

I'm pretty sure it's abandonware and you should just download it.

I mean.

Seriously.

If you can't find a game and you've searched for months, and it's not being sold anymore, why still look? Just freaking download it!

It's not like you'll catch aids or something!
- it's bad
- it's wrong
- it's illegal
- don't ask for support for pirate copies

And check our copyright FAQ:
http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Copyright_FAQ
Abandonware is not a proper legal concept. Copyright of computer software seems to end 95 years after publication (at least in the USA). Feel free to check back in around 2080 if you're allowed to download the games then.

1. Abandonware != Freeware
2. No, Ace Ventura has not been given to the public by its copyright holders
Yuruka wrote:Also, are you telling me you have never, ever, ever done something like downloaded a song/pdf/video (anime perhaps?) or program that you'd usually have to pay for in your life?
That's irrelevant and doesn't change the fact that it's illegal and not tolerated here.

Ah, but you are hurting our project.

You see, companies don't like having their copyright infringed upon. If the people running these companies think we help or even encourage copyright infringment, they might, oh say, send letters demanding ScummVM to be shut down. Or overthink their standing on whether they'll help us in the future when we ask for source code.

Heh, well I wouldn't want to get on the bad side of the ScummVM team do I?

ScummVM is the best thing since sliced bread imo.

I need to buy the LucasArts Archives...
