Be careful when buying an R4DS as there are many, many fakes around. The official R4 does NOT support SDHC cards so those claiming to do so should be avoided as some have been known to brick your DS.

The first one listed on Amazon at £8.96 is a definite fake as it claims support for 4GB & 8GB cards which the R4 does not & also says it's compatible with the latest 1.19 firmware. From the official R4 site - http://www.r4ds.com/index-en.htm the latest firmware as of today (16/07/2008) is 1.18

I'm not sure about UK retailers, but there is an unofficial forum that has a long list of sites that sell the real version. Take a look at - http://www.r4ds-forums.com/the-official ... t1099.html for more details.

Not meaning to get into an argument but that one is a fake. They claim it is made by "NDSLR4" which is incorrect. The name of the R4DS team is R4DS. The official team have recently announced that from September, the official firmware may be set to brick the fake R4 versions so this is another reason to be careful.

Also, I only said some have been known to brick not all. If yours is working, then good :) I'm just trying to warn people off from buying something which may cause them a lot of problems.

A lot of these fakes have almost identical websites to the real version.

I can state with 100% certainty that the official site for the R4DS is www.r4ds.com anything else similar to this is a fake. This includes -

http://www.ndslr4.com/
http://www.r4r4ds.com/
http://www.r4dsl.net/

If people want to buy one of those versions that is up to them but they must be warned that it may cause damage to their DS.

Edit - This is my last word on the subject. I wish you every success with whichever version you may have. 8)

Just because it works doesn't mean it's not a fake.

I'm pretty shocked to see Amazon selling these though... even moreso if they are selling fakes. Crazy.

Hang on... Oh no...

Would that happen if I used to the official Kernel?

Guys, have a look at this website, keepingFriends.com, this is a professional website for flash cart for DS, I think. The goods are very possible be real ones, and the price is much lower than others.
Just check it.

i was just shipped an r4 from realhotstuff. it was in a real box, with real packaging, the same msd reader, wrist strap, etc. the r4 was in a real case. after opening it i found out the board was a clone. they admitted to their "mistake" and sent me a refund.

you can see images here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic= ... try1327830

the point is you don't know its a fake until you open it and know what to look for. the r4ds team has stopped making the cards as of a few months ago. anything you buy from here on out is either old stock or a clone kit. the problem here is that some of the commercial clones, n5 comes to mind, have issues which will blow the fuse when the card boots up. it draws to much from the normal ds boot up.

use your r4 with caution if you haven't verified it. i am by no means bashing the r4 with this post, i have owned one for more than 8 months and loved every second of it.

cheers,
