Any way to make the picture not so wide?

Post by Psygnosis »

From what I understand most Scumm games have a resolution 320x200 or 640x400 and when scaled onto the PSP a resolution like that would be about 435x272. But I can only manage to get the PSP to do the full 480x272, which stretches the picture too much, or a very narrow looking 362x272. Is there any way to get something thats kind of in between the two?

While I can't answer questions about PSP video modes, let me just point out this: If you have aspect ratio correction enabled (to be recommend for most of these old games), then their 320x200 mode is stretched to 320x240, which in turn fits almost perfectly into 362x272 if scaled appropriately.

There are no games in ScummVM that I know which use 640x400; AFAIK all our games either use 320x200, 320x240, or 640x480.

Touche uses that resolution.

The Dig uses that res as well, when playing it on the PC in window mode, the picture is 640x400, and if you look at the moon in the intro it's round.

edit: well it might be 320x200, but still, my point is the same.

I remember using an older version of ScummVM on the PSP, probably before there was an official one, and it had a 16:10 mode that had narrow black bars on the side, as opposed to the huge ones you get with 362x272

No, your monitor stretches that by factor 1.2. I.e. to make it look not squashed in window mode you have to stretch to 640x480.

I fell kind of silly now, I didn't try all the options. There's a video mode labeled 353x272 that some how is a 16:10 ratio image. I can have my round moon in The Dig now.
