Dec. 18th, 2006: ScummVM gets new name

Every now and then somebody will raise the subject of finding a 'better' name for ScummVM, one that fits better with it's modern scope (which extends well beyond SCUMM games). So at this page we present you with some nice alternatives. Choose whichever suits you best -- but we will stay ScummVM.

I dont think its that great but an idea I thought of would be calling it scummvm+

I beleive the news item was tongue in cheek... i.e. the name is SCUMMVM and will stay [until such a time as it doesn't] SCUMMVM

Yeah. The name was, is, and will be ScummVM.

If you don't like it, feel free to imagine that ScummVM stands for, uhm, well, anything you like. E.g. an abbreviation of ScummVM+. Or an obfuscated version of "AdventureVM". Or ... well, as I said, feel free to think of it as whatever you like.

Just as long as you remember: The name is "ScummVM", period.

I think that the only possible solution to keep the name SCUMMVM is to keep also the meaning of SCUMM. So I suggest not to change SCUMMVM meaning if you want a new name but to change the whole name itself because SCUMM is Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion and so SCUMMVM also is Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion Virtual Machine.
