I added details for the German version of Simon the Sorcerer 1 (Amiga AGA) to ScummVM CVS, the change will be in the next ScummVM snapshot.

We don't know if the Amiga ECS version will be supported at this stage, so we aren't taking any md5 details for it at the moment.

Is that the German version of Simon the Sorcerer 1 for Amiga CD32? as I have the English version and those details don't match.

iirc there wasn't ever a german talkie of Simon 1.
This is the english talkie for the Amiga-CD32 console.

I'm not sure, but stating from the CD-Roms name it's a re-release.
The CD-Rom is called: "CD32_Test" :-)

But it's got coloured front and rear CD-cover and a b/w manual
in three languages (English, German, Français)

I thought there was only an English release of the Amiga CD32 version too, but thought I better check on language anyway.

I have the exact Amiga CD32 version, that you have described. Also included a card with Amiga CD32 specific details, a card to order hints and a card for registration.

Does the game run under ScummVM 0.8.0? The graphics aren't decoded correctly but should hear sound effects and speech. Would be best way to confirm files aren't corrupt, since they don't match our current md5 details.

I don't have the three cards you mentioned, otoh i bought it second-hand.

Game runs under 0.8.0!

What it does:

1. Sound effects and speech is played

Restrictions as you pointed out:

1. Graphics aren't decoded
2. No music is played

This is what i get on the log output:

Trying to start game 'Simon the Sorcerer 1 Talkie (Amiga CD32)'
ec5358680c117f29b128cbbb322111a4 gameamiga
Match found in database: target simon1cd32, language English (US), platform Amiga
WARNING: readSfxFile: Can't load sfx file SFXXXX05!
WARNING: Invalid code in VOC file : 128!

the last line is repeated about 30 times and then the intro is over

The Amiga soundtrack is in ProTracker format, and I'm not sure if ScummVM has any support for MOD at all.

I added the details for that version of Simon the Sorcerer 1 (Amiga CD32), the changes are in the current ScummVM snapshots.

There is currently no music support for the Amiga versions in ScummVM. The ProTracker format is used for music in all the Amiga versions and the music files in the disk releases were packed too.

Hmm, isn't there Protracker MOD support in SDL_Mixer already?

Or is ScummVM using another method to output sound?

SDL_Mixer provides MOD support, but isn't used by ScummVM, due to portability reasons. Several ports of ScummVM use custom backends for better performance, check http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Platforms

I see, so solutiopn would be to implement Protracker support into ScummVM?

Well, a little AREXX, but that's it.

If MikMod or ModPlug supports Protracker MOD music, I assume we could borrow code from there.

But I can't do it: I wouldn't have anything to test it with.
