Tutorial: How To Create A ScummVM PS2 DVD

Post by Lechuck » Mon Mar 06, 2006 3:15 am

I know many people wan't to create a working ScummVM PS2 DVD so they can have more games on one disc, but I know many have problems with this so I thought I make a guide to clear up all coulds around this subject. I will also illustrate the diffrent steps along the way so you can get help from images to, I hope you will find this usefull.

Any Admin or Mod can feel free to put this on a sticky.

Tools Used:
Nero Buring Rom 6 ; You can use any equal burning software
WinRAR ; You can use other equal packing software that handles RAR

Step By Step Guide:

Step 1:

Download this file containing the files needed to boot:
ScummVM 0.8.2 DVD Files

Unpack them using WinRAR

Step 2:

Start Nero

Start a new DVD project and use DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) template.

In the ISO tab you use the following settings:
File system: ISO 9660 only
File name lenght (ISO): Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 (Level 1)

Image

In the Label tab you can specify your own name under Disc Name

Ok we are done, click New to complete the task.

Step 3

Now we are ready to start adding files to our DVD, start by adding the files you downloaded in the first step.

Adding Files 1 ; Image was to big to have in the post

Now we have all the things we need to boot our ScummVM engine, but we have no games. And ScummVM isn't so fun with no games, so lets add your games.

Adding Files 2 ; Image was to big to have in the post

Now you must do as I did and place each game in it's own folder.
That's all we need!

Step 4:

Oki everything is done, we are ready to burn!

Image

Only burn a 2X (2 770 KB/s)
IMPORTANT: Always use a high quality medium when burning a PS2 DVD or your PS2 will have problems reading them and even prematurely fail while reading a low grade medium. I know people that has done as I said and still doesn't got a working DVD, until I told them to burn it to a Verbatim DVD-R and everything worked for them.
My advice: Use Verbatim DVD-R and you will be fine.

Final Step

Ok you burnt your ScummVM PS2 DVD with you games now, just put them in your PS2 and enjoy!

Hope you found this guide helpful, just ask questions if you still have any question marks on your mind!

EDIT BY MOD:
Rule #0) No Warez. No Abandonware discussions. Links to content of a questionable nature, asking for, offering, or asking for help/helping to process such content in any way or form is not tolerated. No, it's not okay to request parts of a game either when your media is damaged.

Also this had nothing to do with ScummVM...

Thanks so much Lechuck 4 wonderful and easy step-by-step description how to record DVD and get it work on PS2! :D
First, I have tried to record the image on DVD+RW, but it wouldn't start.
Than I recorded it on Traxdata Printable DVD-R (high quality) and it works perfectly!
Everything is great, only the picture on TV screen is a little bit high upwards and on some games I can't read titles. Anybody else has this problem? My TV is Sony PAL - maybe that's reason IF SCUMMVM 4 PS2 was created originally 4 NTSC TV's.

THANKS again Lechuck, greetings from garfieldzzz

What does this need to run? Do you have to have a modded ps2? I burnt it and it didnt recognize the disk. Probably because i'm using cheapo ones.

It won't run on a unmodded PS2. You need a Mod-Chip or the Slim-Tool (wih Swap Magic Discs).

A Slim-Tool (for the slim PS2) ain't that expensive. It's cool to play the games on TV, some look kinda HD (like Broken Sword) :).

Which files do you mean?
If you're worrying about that SYSTEM.CNF, you can just use one from an older release. It won't ever change.

I never got cd/dvd creation with Nero to work though :)

Do you boot the discs directly from the PS2 bios or are you using some 3rd party boot tool?
