The Golden Calf English Translation Release

Hey, everyone!
I'm glad to announce the completition of my project that aim to translate this nice russian game.
The game is now fully translated in english, text, dialogues, menu and so.

How to use:

Open the game folder and copy all the content of the zipped file.

Folder structure should be:

--THE GOLDEN CARF Game folder
--------------------ui_elements
--------------------interface
--------------------fonts
--------------------string.tab

Open the game with Scummvm.

Edit: V.1.1 of the patch, all font sheet atlas edited to match the correct characters font.

Ah, I see. Where should i post the release of the project? I have also 1 1/2 Ritter ready, as a standalone patch, to post. I thought Fanmade creation would fit the project, sorry if i posted in the wrong section.

According to ScummVMWiki, the game has a few alternate names:

La Quête au Trésor
Golden Life: Unterwegs nach Brasilien

and, of course, Золотой телёнок

If you search for these, it might help you find a (legal, non-warez) copy of the game, if it still exists. The company is (was?) Rootfix Entertainment.

Since the game was not officially translated into English and therefore doesn't have an official English name, and since the two titles I can understand (French and German) are very different from each other AND from the translation of the Russian title, it won't surprise me that "Golden Calf" yields no, or next to no, hits. Officially, game called "The Golden Calf" from Rootfix Entertainment doesn't exist. Well, it didn't until this translation!

A brief note, you say to "open the game with ScummVM", but as of 2026.2 at least in Windows ScummVM doesn't seem to run it; it hangs on the first scene. But I can confirm that if I just run it natively on windows, it works - and so does the translation.

The wiki says this game is currently unsupported, so this is not an issue, or rather, it's a known (or at least expected) one. I'm just surprised that you specifically say to "open the game with ScummVM"; does that work for you?

That is not entirely correct, it's "not officially supported" meaning that it wasn't tested enough to be declared as such. Compatibility status for most Wintermute games is indicated here https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?titl ... mute/Games

Anyway, this is a regression, because the game used to work (though I didn't play till the end). I'll open a bugreport to keep track

I use an old build, actually, which is 2.6.1, it run ok there. But you can run through Windows exe aswell. I used to run it only with Scummvm, thats why i wrote that note.
And ye, to find the game is a bit tricky. I remember i had an hard time then.. try with "The Golden Calf Akella game" or go with the original russian "Золотой телёнок" those are your best bet, i suppose.
