Oooooh yeah, in commodore, spectrum, amiga, and practically all other emulated systems, I never tried to save the game "properly". Savestates all the way. Like you say, way faster. Also more convenient and allows for more descriptive savegame names.
In the games we do have... well, some AGS games disallow saving, at points or at all. But in ScummVM you can save. And it's soooooo much better to be able to save.
