Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (Macintosh CD): IMuse initialization - Device not available

Post by filipetolhuizen »

Hello,
I tried to add 2 different versions of Fate of Atlantis to ScummVM current daily build (one has only 1 large file with the Data and the other is split between 4 files) but both had the startup error mentioned on the title, no matter what executable I put on the game's folder (68k, PPC and 1.5 patch) or even if I uncheck "Use the original GUI and Menu". I tried copying IMuse Setups as data fork, resource fork and binary, but it still didn't make a difference. Am I missing something here? Other Mac games like Full Throttle, Monkey Island, Last Crusade and DOTT are working fine.

Hello, could you clarify a few things please:

- What platform are you testing on (eg. Windows 10, Windows 11, Linux distribution, MacOS, Android, other?)
- What do your audio settings Global and game-specific look like (Audio, MIDI and MT-32) - Can you share your scummvm.ini (or at least the relevant scummvm and atlantis-mac sections?
- Does running ScummVM at a higher debug level (eg. 8) produce anything that looks relevant?

From what I could test, on Windows 10, running a local build (close to latest daily), the Fate of Atlantis Demo for Macintosh/English, available on our site, seems to launch fine.

I only have the old Mac versions of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. For those, it was enough for me to copy the following files:
  • Fate of Atlantis (Macintosh executable needed for Mac GUI; I copied it as MacBinary II)
  • atlantis.000
  • atlantis.001
  • iMuse Setups (needed for music; I copied it as MacBinary II)
  • monster.sou (CD version only)
With the caveat that my floppy version was still distributed on CD as part of the LucasArts Mac CD Game Pack II. I have no idea how the game was installed from floppies.

There's also the later PPC version, which I had hoped was in working order for ScummVM 2026.1.0. But I don't actually own this version myself I did see it in an online action, but someone else with deeper pockets must have really wanted it, so I had to make changes blindly and have someone else test them for me. I think the only needed files for it are Fate of Atlantis Data, and Fate of Atlantis PowerPC (again, using MacBinary II should work).

I think ScummVM understands other formats than MacBinary II, but I haven't experimented with it. I think it's what https://www.scummvm.org/dumper-companion uses anyway.

Those are exactly the same files from one of the versions. I copied them exactly the same way but it didn't work.
EDIT: Turns out I was using automatic mode in HFVExplorer but they all looked the same on the NTFS partition as automatic mode already copied the IMuse file and executable as .BINs (but probably not MacBinary II). Manually selecting MacBinary II made it working. Thanks a lot for pointing it out.

I'm on Windows 7 64-bits. For global MIDI device I'm forcing Windows GS Synth Device and nothing else. For Atlantis there's nothing selected for override. I'll provide the files and try enabling higher debug level as soon as I have access to them.
EDIT: Turns out I was using the wrong method for copying a few game files, which have worked for the other games, but not for Fate of Atlantis.
