All the inane chatter goes in here. If you're curious about whether we will support a game, post HERE not in General Discussion :)

Post by mm44 »

I want to ask about TBS "X-COM: Enemy Unknown" and "X-COM: Terror From the Deep" - can they be ported... in some future? :) It's amazing games, hope all of you know them

They are not 2D point'n'click adventure games, which is what ScummVM mainly focuses on, so its not likely to happen, I'm afraid

2d - yes
point'n'click - yes
adventure - no, it's tactical game. but absolutely action/turn based
I see no big differences in playing between X-COM and Gobliins by example...

Of course there is a huge difference. Gobliins is an adventure/puzzle game. X-Com is a tactical strategy turn based game. Thus, it is out of scope of ScummVM, which focuses mainly on ADVENTURE games (with a few exceptions, which are games that are based on adventure game engines, like the Elvira series). So the answer is again, no. You may want to have a look at UFO2000: http://ufo2000.sourceforge.net/

Edit: Also, this question has been asked in the past, do a search in the forums

I suggest you use DosBox. It has a Symbian version.

Best wishes,

Since February or so. There was a story on OSNews on how it allows you to run Win 3.1 on a Symbian phone. See http://s60dosbox.sourceforge.net/

I would absolutely love to see a portable reverse-engineered engine for the first two X-COM games some day. Not likely it will happen, and I have no clue whatsoever how to do it, but it would be extremly nice :)

Although there are these threads; X-COM 1, X-COM 2 and even Albion. But I don't have a GP2X.

Well, it won't happen as part of this project.

Note that there is an open source remake of X-Com 1: http://ufo2000.sourceforge.net/

Yeah, I know. I meant as a standalone project, like OpenTTD :)

OpenXCOM? :P

Yeah, but it doesn't have any single player part. It just focus on the human vs human multiplayer.

both those xcom games had patches made for them, and i can run them on xp
so as opposed to ufo2000, you can play through the single player game

Heh, there's actually a project called OpenXcom now. Very cool, I hope they reach their goal!
