what to buy

Post by billeke »

So I went to my video game store to look for some games. I looked at the cheap pc games and I saw 4 boxes that caught my interest. My question to you guys: wich box should you guys buy and has the most scummvm compatible games?

Code: Select all

-Leisure Suit Larry collection
-Police Quest collection
-Space Quest Collection
-King's Quest Collection

I personally wouldn't buy any of them, but if I had to choose I guess Larry. But not this collection, it doesn't have all the games in it, I would try to find a old copy of Larry's Ultimate Pleasure Pack instead.

I hate adventuregames where you can die all the time for no apparant reason.

If these are the recent re-releases, I think only the Space Quest and King's Quest collection actually contain any games that can be run with ScummVM. They contain only the SCI versions of the first game in each series, not the original release, and not the rare AGI release of King's Quest IV. So that would leave Space Quest II, King's Quest II and King's Quest III as the only games that are playable in ScummVM.

On the other hand, the new collections include DOSbox, and the games (the ones I've played, at least) work fine with that.

ok thanx I think I will get kings quest.

It's nice to see something like dosbox on those disc. Maybe in time we will have : "lucasarts archive - Scummvm edition":P

but then again, lucasart probably won't do that

I can see it now - the george lucas special re-release of The Secret of Monkey Island.

* All 2d effects have been re-rendered in 3d and overlayed!
* Now with 500% more gungans!
* All pirates have been replaced by Jawas!
* All humor has been replaced by petty slapstick child-like humor!
* No more using items - now you can use 'the force' to accomplish everything!
* LeChuck is your dad!

Note: Guy Brush was considered wimpy and has thus been replaced by a digitally photographed Hayden Christensen whom can use his special ability** to bypass more difficult puzzles.

**whining and throwing a tantrum.

I meant DOSbox in general. I didn't try the exact version that was included with the collections. Sorry for being unclear about that.

if you do get one of those collections be sure to search for collector's patches. It updates the games to work with the latest dosbox and fixes original bugs left in by the developers - ESPECIALLY for the KQ7 game.

This has some comparisons between the different KQ collections, if it's of any help.
