BASS + ScummVM on German PC-Action magazine 6/2007

Post by clem »

just wanted to mention that BASS is one of 3 "full versions" on the cover CD of PC Action 06/2007 ( http://www.pcaction.de/?menu=0900 ).

it comes with ScummVM 0.9.1 in a separate directory (called "SCUMM 0.9.1") and a README explaining how to set it up

then there's the game data files, which are a re-packaging of my installer as a self-extracting zip archive (kinda beats the purpose though, haha)

(edit: and they manage to break the launcher by not including ScummVM in the repackaged bass archive)

thought I'll point out that ScummVM (again) made it to some game magazine :)

it's just a very short article in the magazine, I'll try to scan it

also seems like a rather "unusual" gaming magazine - at least it's the only gaming mag I know which has links to soft porn on their main homepage :)

it looks as if they did the following:
- downloaded my installer and installed it
- removed the outdated scummvm version from it (which also included the GPL license file)
- removed the link to my homepage from it (which was a windows .url file)
- did not remove two of my launcher files: "Beneath a Steel Sky.exe" and "uninst.exe" - which are, as I state on my website, released under GPL
- repackaged that as a self-extracting zip archive

so I think technically they are violating the GPL on the two .exe files? (uninst.exe deletes the game directory, and the other one just exits with an error... but still)

they could have done it a lot cleaner by just using the BASS .zip file from scummvm.org...

(since the scummvm 0.9.1 release is distributed as the original release installer .exe that GPL is intact)

Yes. As the name denotes, it is clearly designed for the male pubertal FPS-player with much under-the-belt-humor and the like.
It would be better-fitting to PC Games or GameStar for that matter, or even PlayVanilla (first german gaming mag for females) for that matter, but that's just my opinion. ;)

Give'em beans!! 8) ;)

You could at least write some "fan letter" to them. ;)
