I read about a remake project of Zak in a very old post here, and I was wondering if it's still in progress..

There was a remake by an independent team of fans using the AGS studio, but Lucasarts sent them a cease and desist letter, thus the project was stopped AFAIK.

Still hunting for the FM TOWNS version since it is a remake-to-me (from the screenshots)

EDIT: I meant hunting for one that's < 100 USD

Terribly sorry, I got my facts wrong here (should teach me not to do 3 things at the same time).

Apparently, there have been a lot of fan-made attempts to make games featuring Zak McKracken:

- The New Adventures of Zak McKracken - this was the one that was closed down AFAIK (its original site is dead)
- Zak McKracken and the Lonely Sea Monster (has been abandoned)
- Zak McKracken and the Alien Rockstars (has been abandoned)
- Zak McKracken 2 - Between Time And Space

The one that's the most promising is the last one (Between Time and Space):

They have released a German version and are working on the English version (with full speech).

So, to sum up, there are two sequels that have been released:
- The New Adventures of Zak McKracken (closed down)
- Zak McKracken 2 - Between Time And Space (in German, for now)

The rest have all been abandoned

. Nah, I shouldn't be gloating. I also thought it was abandoned, but a few days ago, the creator actually released a demo.
