ASUS A696

Post by anubis »

Hi!

I'm looking into buying an asus a696 pocket pc.
Is it compatible with scummvm? or should i expect troubles?

(This device is known to have compatibility issues with some games and full-screen applications)

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I'm owner of the Asus A696, too. PocketScumm (0.10.0) in landscape mode works fine except for the mouse. The mouse is inverted, so right is left, up is down and so on. I think it is a known problem of PocketScumm. I've tried other versions and the 0.10.0 is the only one, which works. I also tried to switch to portrait mode by editing the ini-file but then I get an error exception crash.
I hope there will be a fix soon, so I can play the good old adventure games.

I've a strong conviction that the aforementioned mouse orientation bug will be gone in the imminent 0.10.0 release. If it persists, please file a bug report about it.

That means, with the 0.10.0 svn the mouse prob would be solved???

I hope so. This is a highly tricky shortcoming of the OS, and the implemented solution has all the makings of a hack around those limitations (but is not quite a hack :) ).

So, tomorrow morning I expect either a bug report, or a problem solved post ;) (/me crosses fingers :? )

I checked out, that the mouse problem is the same with other games like Monopoly or Age of Empires. The game ever starts in landscape-mode and the mouse is inverted. Is there a possibility to say the games, that they don't start in landscape but in portrait mode? Other apps like the calender or the today screen works fine in landscape with no mouse probs.

Luzi,

Did you check with the new version? Are there any changes?

Oh thank you, I didn't see that there was a new release yesterday.

So I've downloaded it and test and PocketScumm starts in landscape and the mouse prob is still there. The mouse always is inverted :(

Well if you want this fixed sometime, I'm waiting for a bug report. Be sure to analyze exactly what's going on and also attach the two diagnostic output files (see relevant section in the port's readme).

So here are the two files:
  • scummvm_stderr.txt

SDL: Version $Rev: 41 $ bootstrapping GAPI device
SDL: Device is portrait, OS version 5.1 build 422
    SDL: orientation 0
    SDL: GAPI_RealizePalette NOT IMPLEMENTED
SDL: Starting video access detection --->
    SDL: System 240x320
    SDL: Checking for GAPI
    SDL: GAPI OK, 320x240, H=2 V=640, 16bpp, landscape false
    SDL: Trying Ozone
    SDL: Running on Ozone
    SDL: Ozone 320x240
SDL: Running true Ozone with stylus hack
SDL: <----- Detection finished. Running on Ozone driver at 320x240 (real 240, 320), using ARM accelerated blitter
    SDL: GAPI_WinPAINT NOT IMPLEMENTED
  • scummvm_stdout.txt

    Using configuration file: scummvm.ini
Sound opened OK, mixing at 11025 Hz
    Lost mouse focus.
    Got mouse focus.
Report of the mouse bug:

ScummVM starts in landscape mode and I hold the PPC in landscape mode. If I move the stylus on the display left-right, the mouse cursor moves up-down but only when I move the stylus over the left side of the display. When I move the pen up-down, the mouse cursor moves left-right.
