Converting .bm files...

Post by Mr. Calavera »

Hello, I'm studying some ways to make a remake of the backgrounds of Grim Fandango, as current are in low resolution. But I have a problem with the extent of background files (.bm in this case), can converts it to .bm .png using the Grim Editor, but I can not do the reverse, does anyone have any program or something that I can use to convert .png to .bm? Thanks!

Good luck with that! I will take a look into it myself when I can.

You can deduct the file format from https://github.com/residualvm/residualv ... ap.cpp#L89
Note that some .bm files contain an offset used for rendering. Not sure how this will interact with higher resolutions.

Also, note that quite a few scenes have videos that play on top of the backgrounds (i.e. the tube in Manny's Office). If you change any pixels around those, then the video will become very very visible all of a sudden (while it was originally intended to blend seamlessly).
