I sometimes feel like trying to get this game to work in ScummVM on Mac is almost as mad as being trapped there myself!
I have tried both installing it into a Windows VM and then transferring the data from my old CDs and also downloading the GoG versions, extracting it using InnoExtract and then trying to pick it up from ScummVM. Neither works to pickup the game, it just tells me it can't find a game present. Is there a list of what should/shouldn't be in the directory that is more specific than the rather basic one from the Wiki, or am I just doing something wrong?

Which version of ScummVM are you using?
Escape from Monkey Island is not supported in any ScummVM release yet (including the recent 2.2.0 release). You can try to play it with a development version (available from https://www.scummvm.org/downloads/#daily - make sure to take the latest development build and not latest stable build). But since it is not yet supported, you may encounter bugs or crashes (the wiki indicates it is "completable with glitches").
