So far I have the two rom files in the folder where scummvm (build 1.7.0.git505-g4401f40) sits. I'm on Win8 64bit.
I also have Munt installed and have the two rom files also in this directory. When I try to play a midi files there it sounds like it should be.
I scummvm however I always get the adlib sound even when I choose the mt32 emulation.
Is there a how-to to get the "real emulation" to work here also?

I just tried SQ4 & MI on the latest daily build. Using Win7 32 bit, also with MUNT installed. The game music sounds perfectly fine to me. How did you acquire the ROMS?

The roms must be OK because in MUNT the playback is perfect.
I made some pictures of the tabs to see if there is something wrong.

You have your "Preferred Device" in "Audio" set to default. You need to set it to "MT-32 Emulator".

OK
it seems that was the problem. I always thought the audio tab was only for the digital effects.

Well it never hurts to look through the options in each tab and find out what's available
