King's Quest IV AGI

Post by UsualNoise » Fri Jan 02, 2009 7:33 pm

I recently purchased a copy of this game and transferred it to my DS. When SCUMM loads it, it recognizes it as a fanmade AGI / unknown game. It starts the game correctly but doesn't go past the title screen. Just wondering if anyone has gotten this to work on the DS version yet or if I should file a bug report.

Gah, I tried it a second time and it worked! I believe I must have pressed start (ESC) during the title screen, which freezes it. Anyway, it's working now. Please ignore me. :)

It seems your version is not detected correctly. If the
version is indeed original (and not e.g. a cracked one) then
please could you give details about it? Using the data
you provide we can add detection for this particular
version of King's Quest IV AGI to ScummVM.

Could you please use md5deep from
http://md5deep.sourceforge.net/
and run it on your King's Quest IV AGI floppy's data
(The whole disc, everything) in the two following ways:

# To get the md5sums of each file's first 5000 bytes:
md5deep -p 5000 -r * | grep "offset 0-5000"

# And to get the md5sums of the whole files:
md5deep -r *

You can dump the outputs straight here. Thanks.

Sure, I'd be happy to help. This is definitely an original copy of the AGI game. I purchased it off ebay and received 6 5 1/4" disks with the 2.0 version number at the top (disks had familiar Sierra mountain icon on label) all in the original box; the disks match descriptions I found on the net for the AGI version. And, of course, it works with the emulator.

As far as getting md5 sums, do you want me to do this for each disk (1-6)? Or simply run it on the directory I created where I dumped the contents of the disks? (Duplicate copies of some files were removed, e.g. KQ4VOL.0 is repeated on each floppy but I only kept one around since they were all the same.)

Just run it on the directory you dumped the disks to.

Your version of King's Quest IV AGI should now be detected correctly with a current SVN version of ScummVM.

Could you also, please, download the tomorrow's daily ScummVM build for Windows, run the game, press Alt+D and provide the version information?

Is it possible to run Alt-D in the DS version? Ctrl and Alt buttons appear to be missing in the virtual keyboard.

Would you mind if I asked Usual Noise how much you paid for the game from Ebay.
But tell me to mind my own business if you want.

I have one of those collections with the Sci version on it. I recently got myself a second hand Nintendo DS and I've been playing some Agi games in ScummVMds including the KQ series on it. I'd like an Agi version to try on the DS.
I know it's rare but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be expensive. Hopefully anyway.
