SCUMMVM1.2.0 SCI Game Speed

Post by Junebug »

Hello all,

I have been playing Space Quest I (VGA) and Leisure Suit Larry 1 (VGA) and Kings Quest I SCI Remake using the latest SCUMMVM and there appears to be a speed slowdown problem in playing games of the SCI branch.

Of course games such as Broken Sword, Return to Zork, Sam and Max etc all play fine at correct speed, but the new SCI engine supported games appear to be extremely slow - unfortunately making them unplayable.

Is there anything that can be done for these games to make them playable?

There is also a bug in SCI Freddie Pharkas - a large yellow rectangle obscures the screen as the mouse pointer is moved.

On a brighter note - version 1.2.0 works on large USB Drives - excellent.

Thanks again,

Hi Junebug,

can you please confirm if this is a regression and from which version?

In my experience all SCI games are pretty slow (especially VGA version) on PS2 - I'm not sure where the PS2 backend is falling short, all other games play just fine, but there is something specific to the SCI ones which cause them to be slow on PS2.

Great!

You see, bit by bit we will catch all the bugs and make of the PS2 the best backend ever ;-)

Talk soon,
