DEVS- one-stop post for ALL Ps2 issues and reports

Post by UniqueUserName »

Let's try to make things easier on the Developers and consolidate all compatibility reports, bugs, fixes, observations, etcetera for all versions of ScummVM on the Playstation 2 here. I will keep re-editing this first post with all relative data as long as I'm available. When real life drags me away for periods of time (as it does) I would appreciate any mods/admins help in keeping this going to give our Devs a one-stop place for all Ps2 issues of all versions starting with the last release version of 1.4.1.
Thank you all and keep up the great work!

REQUEST for the OFFICIAL ScummVM Ps2 1.4.1 download to re-appear in the "older versions" download section on this site. The one on sourceforge is a hybrid with files from this year (also, -S elf instead of the -N elf it should have) mixed in with older ones and is totally not the...

====Ps2 1.4.1 (Jan 27 2012 18:43:53) 14,033kb scummvm-N elf version====

...that worked flawlessly for us (which to some of us is the last version to work 100% and should still be offered). Currently, we don't have any other options for a Ps2 older version since that one went missing.

----------------------------

ELF problems:

1.7.0
ScummVM 1.7.0 NOT working on USB devices.

(Black screen with various users and Ps2 models)

[Hard Drive problem finally solved in another thread.]

----------------------------

SETTINGS:

1.7.0
Not displaying on most basic TVs, by DEFAULT?

(example: Black screen, which seems to be the biggest issue over the years with Ps2 users.)

(fix example: Removing "gfx_mode=3" from the INI provided in the 1.7.0 zip)

Not saving its own settings, by DEFAULT?
It won't save ANY changes made on the launcher to the hard drive, and it won't create its own Scumm folder on memory card if you choose to insert and use one.

(fix example: Manually making a scummvm folder on memory card, adding the scummvm.icn and icon.sys files from a previous version of scumm, cut/paste the INI file from the hard drive to the memory card folder, load with memory card inserted, set paths, add games, cut/paste the INI file back to hard drive, then run as normal)

REQUEST for seperate ".ini" files PRE-setup for hdd/usb, right in the zip? Pre-set paths for the standard filesystem would be a bonus (saves, theme, plugins, etcetera).

----------------------------

SAVING:

1.7.0 & 1.4.1
Neither version actually saves your game to the hard drive every time, even though it says save successful EVERY time, in reality it only works ~05% of the time.

(fix example: You literally have to EXIT the game to Frontend (or Backend, depending on how you look at it) Launcher and RELOAD the save (you just saved) before you can be sure it is actually saved.

----------------------------

SCREEN POSITION (In-Game default X/Y fixes):

1.7.0
screen= down 5 right 10.

1.4.1
screen= down 10 right 5.

(example: Can't see all of character's speech or lotto numbers in Zak Mckracken and others.)

----------------------------

COMPATIBILITY Reports:

1.7.0 (non working games)
Freddi Fish 5- The Case of the Creature of Coral Cove (Russian (ID: freddicove-win-ru).
Spy Fox 3- Operation Ozone (English (ID: spyozon-us).

----------------------------

KEYBOARD problems:

1.7.0 & 1.4.1
USB-keyboard not working (working properly in 1.3.1).

----------------------------

GAMES (we hope for future implementation):

Guilty.
Innocent Until Caught.

----------------------------

..... EVERYONE ELSE .....

----------------------------

All right everyone else, let's start posting so I can fill this up, and together we can make our ScummVM and Ps2 world a better place.  :) :D 8)

Hello Den ..

After reading your post I loaded my 1.4.1 and my usb-keyboard did in fact work, so it is possible..

However, trying to recreate your problem I wiped scumm off my hard drive, redownloaded, and reinstalled a fresh copy of 1.4.1, to which you are correct that it did not work right out of the zip on the ps2.

This left me with more questions than answers unfortunately as I researched and tried to diagnose the problem itself. First, I was unable to get it directly from this site as it doesn't appear in the older versions section any longer.

I ended up getting it from SourceForge.Net, to which I cannot verify it is in fact the correct original zip. On the launcher screen it does not display the date and time of the version, and there is no spinning helix while loading. The dates are correct for the files themself, but all the folders have dates from this year as if it's a hybrid with 1.7.0. It was supposed to have a SCUMMVM-N.ELF but it does not and contains a SCUMMVM-S.ELF. The ini didn't look correct to me also (even though it did state it was the correct version in the ini itself). Also, that site has 1.5.0 and 1.6.0 available for Ps2, from which I didn't know even existed yet, as I have never seen them on this site and last I heard there was a gap between versions. So, then I downloaded all their versions since 2010 and tried to compare elf sizes with what I had for my setup originally. Unfortunately, none of them matched.

My scummvm-N.ELF size is 14,033kb and is the "official" 1.4.1 version for Ps2 that was originally on this site.

In the mean time I have edited the first post to reflect version 1.4.1 not working a usb-keyboard, until we can figure out why its not, when it should be.

Den, can you confirm your keyboard working on older versions of SVM, and your current version of uLE?

Thanks to Specialist666 for confirming the official ScummVM 1.4.1 (originally from this site) is the one I thought it was.

Anyone having problems with 1.7.0, this one is the last known working perfectly version from both IHD and USB.
It is now available for download again.

Hey, while Im posting, where is our v1.8.0 that all the other consoles got, but Ps2 didnt?

I was hoping the new one would finally cure the bugs weve had for a few versions now.

I apologize if you've checked our if I'm stating the obvious but the build bot has links for the ps2 for development and stable binaries. What versions are these or do they not work?
http://buildbot.scummvm.org/builds.html
Also, wiki has build instructions for ps2. Again, Not that I've actually tried, but sometimes the easiest answers get overlooked.

Hello lazylazyjoe,

Not news to me, but Im sure you made somebodys day with that information. :D

Most of the other ports seem to be past 1.8.0 already, so I was just hoping we could catch up with the last version finally lol.

NOTE TO ALL:

I fixed the dead link to the USB/HDD version of ScummVM...

Most likely for the last time, as this one should be permanent.
