Game Saves on HDD

Post by richi902 »

hi,

it seems there is a problem if you set the save game path to
the hdd via the global options inside scumm.

if you save inside of a game to the hdd, it wont always
write directly a save file to the hdd, but sometimes it
dose, i dont know if this is a bug which can be fixed.

but as long as i dont turn of scumm, and just exit out of a
game i'm still be able to load the save games from the
hdd(but i think they are stored in ram or something)
so i think they are not directly written to the hdd.

btw i set the save path to pfs:/scummvm/Saves inside
of the the +ScummVM partition, if this wont ever work is
there a way of resetting the setting to the memory card?.

i'm also starting scumm from that partition via ule as i dont want to use a usb drive.

Hope this can be fixed 'cause saving to the hdd would be
less painfull.

Hey richi ..

quit game after saving .. reload that same save from the load button on the frontend .. then quit scumm normally.

works for my internal non usb setup. a couple extra steps but its the best i've got unless someone has fixed this problem.

Did that work for you and how does it works while playing. Doesn't that bring any error??

as i can remember it worked fine that way.

btw. is anyone still working on the ps2 port?
because it could use some updates, especialy update the ps2 tool-chain, so it can be manualy compiled...:/

I'm happy to hear it worked good for you richi!

For anyone else with a disappearing saves on hard drive problem follow this:

------------
While in-game: SAVE, then QUIT to scumm launcher menu.
While in-menu: LOAD, then reload the FILE you just saved.
After loading: QUIT, then on scumm launcher menu select QUIT.
------------

That should stop your saves from disappearing. :D

As far as I know that is still the best way to ensure your saves do infact save on a stand-alone internal hard drive setup. Recently it has been suggested that if you set your save path to a usb storage device from an internal hdd launched setup that it would also be a fix for this problem. If you test that please report your results here. Good luck!
