Howto use the Monkey Island SE Music with Scummvm

Post by Tobis87 »

First you must extract the game content, as described here:
http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=7671

1. Extract MusicOriginal.xwb AND MusicNew.xwb.

2. Copy following files to a new folder:

Code: Select all

MusicNew/Converted_WAV
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 15M 2009-09-03 13:03 track2.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 15M 2009-09-03 13:03 track3.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 15M 2009-09-03 13:03 track4.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 20M 2009-09-03 13:03 track5.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 11M 2009-09-03 13:03 track6.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 2,2M 2009-09-03 13:03 track7.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 12M 2009-09-03 13:03 track8.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 16M 2009-09-03 13:03 track9.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 21M 2009-09-03 13:03 track10.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 23M 2009-09-03 13:03 track12.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 20M 2009-09-03 13:03 track13.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 3,2M 2009-09-03 13:03 track14.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 8,6M 2009-09-03 13:03 track15.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 24M 2009-09-03 13:03 track16.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 15M 2009-09-03 13:03 track17.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 17M 2009-09-03 13:04 track18b.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 13M 2009-09-03 13:04 track18c.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 27M 2009-09-03 13:03 track19.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 3,1M 2009-09-03 13:03 track20.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 21M 2009-09-03 13:03 track22.wav

MusicOriginal/Original
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 2,9M 2009-09-03 12:55 track21.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 24M 2009-09-03 12:55 track23.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 21M 2009-09-03 12:55 track24.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 user 25M 2009-09-03 12:55 track25.wav
3. Rename the files:
track2.wav -> track1.wav
track3.wav -> track2.wav
etc...

4. Open track17c.wav with Audacity, select the whole track and copy it to the end of track17b.wav, then save it as track17.wav. Delete track17b.wav and track17c.wav

5. Compress the files with you favorite audio compression. (Ogg, Mp3 or Flac)

6. Add the compressed tracks to a Monkey Island Enhanced Version and start the game with Scummvm.

Note, you may want to adjust the subtitle speed in order to match the length of the audio tracks.

How do you actually trigger track10 to be played inside MI1? I thought, it was unused (despite referred in the scripts).
5. Increase the speed of track17c.wav with Audacity by 6%.
What would be the point in it?
6. Use oggenc or lame to compress the files.
Why no mention of FLAC?

I didn't know that it was unused. I'm not a developer.

Because the track is longer than the scene, which gets displayed by scummvm. I prefer to hear the fade out instead of a chopped up end.

Because I forgot it.

You don't need to change speed on any tracks. Just crop appropriately when needed. That's what I did for my own version.

edit: I now adjusted the subtitle speed in order to match the length of the audio tracks. This seems to be much better than cropping or changing the speed of the music.

Thank you for the guide... (especially as I seem to be the first!)

Although I have the Xbox 360 version and won't be able to benefit personally, I am pleased to see advice for those who wish to dabble :)

The duration of the scene is not fixed, though. It depends pretty much on the subtitle speed, obviously.
