Backyard Football

Post by Smothermunchie »

Well, my copy of Backyard Football 2002 just came in the mail today.

I fired it up with Scumm and it states "Error! binkw32.dll" not loaded.

I checked the CD and there's no such file.

Did I buy the wrong version? :(

That error occurs, when the game is unable to find the converted DXA videos. That exact error message comes directly from the game's scripts, and can be ignored.

Backyard Football 2002 isn't supported though, since it requires 16bit color support to be added to ScummVM. The game will run under ScummVM, but there will be numerous palette glitches.

Hey Kirben! Thanks for the response.

So I got the wrong version, huh? Ah nuts. Looks like I'm out the 99 cents I paid for it. :(

Well, I played it some on my computer and didn't care for it too much like I thought I would.

I was basically hoping for a kiddie version of Tecmo Super Bowl.

By any chance, is the original, Scumm friendly version better than the sequel that I have or is about the same?

Thanks.

The game still uses SCUMM, but it uses 16bpp images which is not supported yet. Football 2002 is basically an updated version of the original, I don't see too many differences (visually, there are much more internally) when using the original interpreter.
