ScummVM 0.9.0 "The OmniBrain loves you" released

Post by sev »

It has been almost 8 months since we started to work on the 0.9.x code branch and today we're pleased to announce the release of ScummVM 0.9.0 "The OmniBrain loves you".

Many things are waiting for you, one of the most noticeable is the new and improved GUI. We also added support for 2 completely new games -- The Legend of Kyrandia and The Feeble Files.

Other important changes include:
  • Reworked detection code for SCUMM games. Now all your fan translations will work out of the box
  • Added subtitle configuration controls to the options dialog
  • New official Atari/MiNT port
  • Much improved WinCE port
  • Numerous bugfixes in the SCUMM, SAGA, Simon, Broken Sword 2 and BASS engines
For the complete list read the release notes.

Unfortunately not all ports are built yet and also you may experience some problems with downloads as not all SourceForge mirrors picked up the files. So, please, try different mirrors and be patient.

Don't wait any longer, go and fetch a build for your platform on our downloads page.

Finally, how long I waited for this moment. Finally another stable release of ScummVM. Honestly, I like the stable version better than the unstable daily snapshots (because it's more stable, of course  ) . Well, I guess in, like, one year it's then ScummVM 1.0.0, isn't it? But hey, take your time and let's all have fun with this version, and may ScummVM have many more releases! :D

Wouldn't It be 1.0.0 ? That would seem to be a more logical release number than 0.10.0 imho, but it's your interpreter, you can decide what your next release number is named. Heck, why not ScummVM release 42.77.891 ?

Any reason why 1.0.0 would be more logical than 0.10.0?

Just registered to say THANK YOU for this awesome program! You guys rock! Well, maybe not as much as a three-headed-monkey, but pretty darn close!

Keep up the great work! :)

0.10.0 is about as logical as 0.A.0 :-)

Heh, it's pretty common for Open Source Software not to reach 1.0.0 too fast, as it would seem so.....stable! ;) :)

Version numbers in computer programs are not mathematical. They work like this:

major.minor.revision

If I understand this page correctly, it's 6.0 plus a build number and service pack major and minor version numbers.

The version numbers seem to mean different things depending on if it's Windows 9x or Windows NT.

0.X.0 looks nice :)
