Unravel a murder mystery in Los Angeles in the 1940s

Post by gu3 »

We are happy to announce that Private Eye by Brooklyn Multimedia is now ready for public testing.

Play Phillip Marlowe, a hard-boiled private eye, as he attempts to solve a murder mystery in Los Angeles in the 1940s.

Released in 1996, this game is a rare gem with cel animation technique and professional voice acting. Based on Raymond Chandler's work, the game plays like an interactive movie where you can choose which version of the story to play: one is faithful to the book while the other has an alternate ending.

Only the US release for Windows is supported at the moment.

You will need a daily development build. As always, please submit the bug reports to our issue tracker.

I tried adding the game copying files from the cd as indicated here, but I think one file is missing from that list as scummvm could not find a game unless I copied support/pvteye.z to the support dir. After that, the game seems to work fine.

Good catch.

Code: Select all

support/pvteye.z
is not actually used by the engine, but it is useful for the detection. I will update the wiki.

Spanish version is recognized but throws:

"It uses different format for the assest" (typo included). I can't find those .z files in the CD.

Tested with latest daily at the moment of posting this.

Thank you for testing. As the first post clearly states, "Only the US release for Windows is supported at the moment.". So, no surprise here.

For anyone interested in testing localized versions of Private Eye (UK, Spain, France, etc), please try this PR:
