Post by Harrypoppins »

Original subject
Hello !
When i open residual, the app quit immediatly, i have look in lib/pref and there is no conf who's create for residual.

Someone have an idea ?
Thanx.
I use OSx leopard 10.5.8
intel 2.13 Ghz

Edit Thu Apr 28, 2011 :
My computer :
- OSx leopard 10.5.8 intel 2.13 Ghz
- Xcode 3.1.3
- SDL 1.2.14

ResidualVM bug report here : https://github.com/residualvm/residualvm/issues/53

Hi there !

I 've just seen ResidualVM get nice update and the alpha is finished (thanks to the team :) ).

Unfortunatly ResidualVM (with the latest build) still not work (it exit immediatly, and open a crash window) on my computer.

I have follow the instructions of MeddlingMonk

Launch Terminal and type cd /applications/residual.app/contents/macos and enter. (Assuming of course you have ResidualVM in your applications folder. If not, adjust accordingly.) Then type ./residual -d3 and enter and, if what comes up doesn't make sense, post it here and I'm sure someone can figure it out.

And I have this answer from "Terminal" :

dyld: unknown required load command 0x80000022
Trace/BPT trap
macbook-de-harry:macos Harry$

Here's somebody who have any idea ? Am I the only one ?

Thanks. :)

Strange, I thought it would at least start some sort of launcher/add game GUI these days. The only idea I can think of is to start it from a command prompt (since I don't use OS X myself, I don't know exactly how) and see if it prints any error message.

It definitely should launch the gui. I just tried by moving my existing prefs file and the gui came up with nothing listed. That's what I expected and that's what I got. Now, I'm using a self-compiled svn build, and I have to wonder whether Harrypoppins is using a post-gui build at all, whether downloaded or self-built. I would expect the answer to be 'yes' but it's dumb to assume.

If the answer is yes, re-downloading the Mac snapshot might be a good idea. If that doesn't help or that has already been tried, this is what I'd suggest:

Launch Terminal and type cd /applications/residual.app/contents/macos and enter. (Assuming of course you have ResidualVM in your applications folder. If not, adjust accordingly.) Then type ./residual -d3 and enter and, if what comes up doesn't make sense, post it here and I'm sure someone can figure it out.

Oops, I tried to follow the thread, but i must have missed a date somewhere I guess.

Anyhow:

* What kind of mac is that (especially CPU and OS-version-wise)
* What version of XCode does it run?
* What version of SDL did you install?

Ah, 10.5, not so good at running 64-bit executables that one.

A quick google-search provided the following http://asqueella.blogspot.com/2010/12/d ... mmand.html

Maybe that will help.

For me 10.5 run 64 bit executable as weel 10.6. It's strange because i've already use ResidualVM on my mac (with the firest alpha).

Thanks for your help but it don't work with the different command on your link (I don't have type 'firefox' in terminal).

Damn I m really sad if ResidualVM need Snow Leopard. (why ??)

Any other idea ?

Ah, you aren't supposed to type the Firefox-bit, that example was for Firefox...

Exchange that with the path to your residual-executable
/Applications/ResidualVM.app/Contents/MacOS/residual

which would mean:

arch -i386 /Applications/ResidualVM.app/Contents/MacOS/residual

or, for a more permanent way:

cd /Applications/ResidualVM.app/Contents/MacOS/
mv residual firefox.original
ditto --arch i386 residual.original residual

And, yes 10.5 runs SOME 64-bit apps, but not all, it should do fine with 32-bit though. (I see no reason currently to require 10.6 for residual, but SDL's newest version has dropped 64-bit support for 10.5).
