Post by aquadran »

Please post comments too if you like.

I believe that ResidualVM should span out just like ScummVM. Otherwise we are missing out on lots of other great (non LucasArts) adventure games just because they are 3D.

Little Big Adventure is fun, as it always has been. It's one of the classics that I still go back to play. I think the Twin engine should definately be included.

Also, it's usually known as Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure in the US for anyone who doesn't know it as Little Big Adventure. Anyone who played LBA2 will know that though, due to the fact that Little Big Adventure 2 was the only name for the sequel.

God, yes! I want all my adventures in ScummVM and ResidualVM.
Tex Murphy, I know one day we'll be together with gloriously rendered 3d environments... sigh

Yes but I would say that including the prequengine would be a better idea as the code for twin-e is a mess and not finished, prequengine isn't complete either but it is active. The prequengine is GPL (http://sourceforge.net/projects/prequengine) it is also going to be used for a fan game prequel to Little Big Adventure/Relentless (http://lbaprequel.xesf.net/) the same person has started work on an LBA2 engine reimplementation (http://sourceforge.net/projects/lba2engine/) but this is on hiatus until the LBA1 engine reimplementation is completed.

LBA2 was also known as Twinsen's Odyssey.

I thought it was Little Big Adventure 2: Twinsens Odyssey. I always thought that was the subtitle. Thanks for pointing that out.

I didn't know that there was an engine planned for LBA2 as well. Thats great, I love LBA2!

Hopefully if prequengine is used that will mean LBA Prequel will be compatable too when it is finished.

Here is a page with the progress of the prequengine: http://forum.magicball.net/showthread.php?t=13679

I don't care about how much code looks, it still need
adopted to scummvm common things.
By short look into source code of prequengine is not so clean and it use still buggy RE software renderer. twin-e use opengl for drawing so gfx is better adopted for our needs.
Anyway most important how far/well both engines play LBA1. I can't test unfornately twin-e, but from info, game is completable. Maybe anyone here know how both engines works ?

Regarding fan made remake, it seems to be diffrent game not compatible with LBA1 engine. So i'm not focusing on this one. Also it always can be adopted later time if will be enough similiar.

About LBA2 is early state and it seems quite different engine so it's out of option.

Ah prequengine is designed for remake and part of remake project. Not good, merge out of option, reuse when it still active is not fun, easier is improve missing things for twine (if any comparable to prequengine).

Well the current state of twin-e is it crashes as soon as the first enemy is about to come on screen and the intro video is displayed at the wrong speed, I don't think there is any support for CD audio. But other than that the core gameplay system e.g. the different emotions/attitudes seem to work.

why isn't there a forth option like: it's ACTION ADVENTURE for crying out loud.

I mean, Resident Evil would be logically next, if we start with this.

I am a passionate fan of the Resident Evil series, but that only means I can't be biased by this.

In my personal opinion that ResidualVM should be for pure adventure games.

but then again, it could be added into residual for now, and later splited into a separate action-adventure reimplementation project.

cheers

To be honest, so was Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis in ScummVM with its fighting mechanics. It has been quite popular.

in indy4, it was an action element of gameplay, but LBA and Alone in the Dark are completely action-based.

a quick look at it, and it doesnt seem like an adventure game at all.

well if someone wants to experience this himself, just a little search on youtube should solve your dillema.
