Blazing Dragons Set ScummVM Aflame

Post by sev »

After many months of development Blazing Dragons is now ready for public testing.

Join young dragon Flicker as he attempts to win the hand of Princess Flame and save Camelhot along the way.

This is a rather odd Point and Click game as it was only released on Consoles. ScummVM's new Dragons engine allows you to run the Playstation version of this somewhat forgotten title. Throw away that PS1 controller and enjoy the game with a mouse/keyboard interface. We've also taken out all the annoying loading screens.

Only the US and GB Playstation 1 versions are supported at the moment.

You will need a daily development build. As always, please submit the bug reports to our issue tracker.

I couldn't find neither the game nor the engine when filing a new bug report. Did I miss them, or haven't they been added yet?

How are the buttons mapped to the keyboard? I can't complete the dancing game without the R and L buttons. WASD und the arrow keys seems to be the front buttons, but no clue about R1,R2,L1 and L2.

Have you tried the "Keymaps" setting in Launcher?

Click on "Blazing Dragons"
Click on "Options..."
Choose "Keymaps" tab

Yes, I found this (didnt know it existed) before, but there is no PSX mapping to choose from, but the default Windows keymaps like F5 etc. Nothing PSX related.

Hmm, that sounds like either an unimplemented feature or a bug :-)

Let's see if the engine dev jumps in...

Yes I haven't implemented support for key mapping yet. It's on my TODO list.

I also plan to add instruction dialogs before the mini games to let the player know which keys to use.

For the dance battle mini game the current keys are

Square = a
Triangle = w
Circle = d
Cross = s
L1 = o
R1 = p

Thank you, I was able to pass the mini-game. Btw: I am owning only the german version, which except the cutscenes seems to work mostly fine, is there feedback also welcome or only on the us/uk version?

Hi invwar,

Sure I'm happy for you to report any issues you find with the German version. I'm mainly fixing issues with the english releases at the moment because I have a more complete disassembly of those games but I will get to the german and french releases soon. Hopefully.

I've just added key mapping support so you should be able to remap the controls now :)

Possibly a dumb question...but how do you save and load in Blazing Dragons? I am relying on the Autosave feature but would like to figure out how I'm meant to be doing it...

Can you bring up the in-game ScummVM menu?
In Windows or Linux platforms this is usually Ctrl+F5 unless mapped otherwise.
(On Android it should be the Menu key or long-press of the Back key)

You should find Load and Save functions there.

In the original game you had to press Start button on the PS1 Controller to get the menu up. Unfortunately this menu is currently not yet supported, so only the Ctrl+F5 general Menu is working at the moment. I also created a Ticket where I suggested to use F5 for easier and more accepted game menu call, let's hope this will be done for next release.
