Eye of the Beholder AMIGA: Supported or not?

Post by vanfanel » Mon Sep 23, 2019 7:39 pm

Hi there,

It seems to me that EOB 1 works pretty well in Scummvm, so I was planing to start a campaign. However, I would hate to be surprised by bugs later on, so I would like to know: Is the Amiga version supported?
According to this:
https://www.scummvm.org/compatibility/2 ... b/?lang=en
...the game is NOT supported on the Amiga version. However, it was for 2.0.0 and I use current 2.1.0 GIT version.
So, is it a good idea to start a game on the Amiga data?

Thanks!

The Amiga version of Eye of the Beholder I + II are supported in 2.1 according to the changelog. So grab the latest daily build for your platform or wait for 2.1 stable.

@ WienerWuerstel: Thanks! I had not seen the new games supported on the Kyra engine in the NEWS.md file.
I tried to load the community AGA versions, and they dont seem to work, since they are not recognized. They seem to be the Amiga versons with VGA graphics, using the PC DOS VGA data, so it should be easy.

Hello, which files are needed in order to play the Amiga version? The website https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Datafiles only shows the datafiles for the DOS version of Eye of the Beholder. Now that 2.1.0 has officially released, the wiki should be updated with the Amiga files needed.

This is great that ScummVM will soon support the Amiga version of Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2.

The Amiga version of Eye of the Beholder has some better things than the DOS version. The Amiga version includes an end sequence which is not part of the DOS version because Amiga floppy discs can hold more 880kb vs 720kb. The DOS version has no end sequence, only a word 'congratulations'. Also the Amiga version has better sound and music giving an already awesome game a bit more atmosphere over the PC version.

I have play this game since 1991 for the Amiga. Even the DOS version at times to try the 'All-Seeing Eye' option. I still play this game today on Amiga to explore all the nooks and secrets and try different classes and races and try many different things.

The enhanced Amiga AGA version mentioned in the post above has the VGA 256 color graphics from the DOS version added. Replacing the original Amiga 32 color graphics. As well as the other benefits of the Amiga version included there are new features such as multi-language support bringing this great game to a wider international audience. Also a new function called Automap by pressing TAB button shows a map of where you have explored so far, without making too easy. This allows for an added accessible to a new generation of gamers who are not yet ready for graph paper mapping.

This enhanced Amiga version is in my opinion the best and definitive version of Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2.

Thank you to the ScummVM team for their great work in making this an other games available on modern devices. Blade Runner is a very exciting addition to ScummVM.

"The most incredible Dungeon Crawler ever to appear on the Amiga and PC, Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2 by Westwood Studios is now playable in FS-UAE. What's more, these are the unofficial AGA versions, with full auto mapping and higher end graphics, which did not come with the original Amiga games."
