ADI Jnr. (Gob engine) - An unrecognized version of the game

Post by Graxer »

In the screenshot on the ScummVM homepage I saw this copy protection image:
Image
From Once Upon a Time: Little Red Riding Hood. I recognised the copy protection image from a game I played as a kid called "ADI Jnr." and so I decided to see if it was ScummVM compatible. Although it isn't listed on the wiki it can be added to ScummVM as "Gobliins 2 (Unknown/DOS)".

Code: Select all

The game in 'F:\DOS\AdiJr\' seems to be unknown.
Please, report the following data to the ScummVM team along with name
of the game you tried to add and its version/language/etc.:
  {"intro.stk", 0, "6d234641b74b3bdf746c39a64ff1abcc", 2678326},
(In response to this message the game is ADI Jnr., its a DOS game and it is the English version.)

It also actually starts up, plays the game's introduction, and gives me the same copy protection screen as above (but in English). After I pass that I get a screen with an image telling me to ask a parent to take write-protection off the floppy disk and ScummVM's terminal says:

Code: Select all

WARNING: Attempted to write to file "bou.inf"!
WARNING: Attempted to write to file "bou.inf"!
WARNING: Attempted to write to file "bou.inf"!
WARNING: File "DISK2.STK" not found!
There seems to be very little about this game on the internet and all I could find was a few images of an Amiga version on emulation websites. (Although I won't link to them here for obvious reasons)

I felt I should bring this up in case the people who are working on the engine are interested in adding support for the game.[/b]

Coktel Vision who developed the Gob engine and games also developed the Adi(bou) games for Educational Entertainment (Edutainment) using the same or very similar engines. See:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coktel_Vision

There is not much listed in the English Wikipedia, Mobygames etc. but the French Wikipedia has a page for them:
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adi_%28s%C3%A9rie%29
(French only - Use Google Translate).

The Gob engine developers are aware of these and have completed some partial support for some ADI versions, though I think there are quite a lot of variants:

Thanks for pointing this out to me. Apologies for making out this was something new.

If there is any information that the Gob engine developers need about this version of the game that I can provide I don't mind giving it to them.
