Re: Does this release fix the DreamWeb crashing issue???

The mac download for 1.7.0 is now available, so you can test. But I tested already and unfortunately I can confirm it still crashes.
However since the crash only occurs with the official release version, you can get the stable version from http://buildbot.scummvm.org/builds.html to play Dreamweb on a mac.

This is my first post on the ScummVM forum so forgive me if I post this in the wrong thread.

I've played and finished Beneath a steel sky, Discworld 1 and Ringworld: Revenge of the Patriarch with ScummVM V1.7.0 "The Neverrelease". I had a lot of fun and enjoyed playing these nice games with ScummVM so thanks a lot ScummVM team for making this possible. 8)

I'm currently playing Return to Ringworld but I think that I've found a bug. I'm stuck at The Rim. I can't seem to use the scanner so it's impossible to move on to the next screen. The scanner loads fine but if I click on the arrow on the top or bottom of the screen, the scanner just disappears and Quinn and Seeker don't start to move on to the next screen.

Here's my save file if anyone would like to try it out: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/525 ... ld2-cd.000

I like this game a lot and would just like to continue it.

Please file bug reports in our bug tracker on Sourceforge. It's way more likely that someone can can fix the bug sees it there than here. :)

Also read the related FAQ entry for further information on reporting bug: http://www.scummvm.org/faq/#question.report-bugs, thanks.

I seem to remember some issue at that point with the original interpreter.

I don't know what went wrong the first time that made it impossible to use the scanner on The Rim. The developer couldn't reproduce this bug and neither did I the second time.

Unfortunately I didn't have a save file from before this scene to make it easier to find the problem.

Hello
I was interested in trying these improvements to the PS2 port but the download page does not have 1.7.1 for PS2..only 1.4.1.

I'm I missing something?

We just haven't reveived a binary from the PS2 porter. Try downloading an automatically built binary from our buildbot:

http://buildbot.scummvm.org/builders

The "stable-ps2" download gives you the stable version of ScummVM 1.7.0, whereas the "master-ps2" download the latest bleeding edge version

Though for some reason when I launch the scummvm.elf I'm greeted with a black screen...this was not the case with 1.4.1.

NOTE: I'm launching this via USB and through ulaunchelf.

C:\Documents and Settings\aaa\Application Data\ScummVM\scummvm.ini

It has been a while since i upgraded Scummvm from v1.4, but I can not use this version 1.70

why did you have to make scummvm read from C:\Documents and Settings\aaa\Application Data\ScummVM\scummvm.ini
and gamesave files? and not read all the ini and gamesave files from the installed directory.

* it is too hard to carry all the files from pc to pc instantly when it doesnt read data from the installed directory.
* why would i store any data files in C: drive where OS was installed, which makes OS run slow and OS backup too long, more files in C: longer to filter files and read files.

please make options to choose where i can locate save files and ini file.

UFO: Putting the configuration file and saved games into the same directory as the installation causes problems, which is why this was changed.

A significant number of users and most developers have multiple versions of ScummVM installed in different locations. Without using a shared location, saved games made with one version have to be manually copied over to other versions installation folders.

If we use separate directories, users complain that their savegames have "vanished" upon installing the new version.

If we use a standard installation location, overwriting the old version, only one version of ScummVM can be installed and overwriting of configuration files could occur.

Hence we decided that a standard user data location for the configuration file and savegames is the best option.

Also, the new locations are the Windows standards for user application data, which applies similar arguments across all programs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_folder
