Benefits of OpenGL redering

Post by xadox »

Could someone explain me the benefits of the OpenGL rendering methods in the ScummVM daily releases.

As I can see in OpenGL mode I can change the window size with the mouse.

One benefit is support for hardware accelerated scaling through the use of OpenGL.

In past year GSOC, someone worked on refactoring the OpenGL backend and adding support for bsnes-style shaders: there was any further development?

I am not sure what you talk about but it seems that no one worked on that last year. So, there was no development there as part of GSoC 2012.

You are right, I remembered wrong, but someone worked actually on shader support on GSoC 2012!
Eric Culp: his primary goal was the refactoring of the scaler plugin system, later he added shader support to OpenGL backend; on his blog he documented his work.
