The comment is both right and wrong. It really does depend on the methods being used to access the files. Different codecs for flac and ogg exist and have dramatically different overheads. In the end though flac is technically better than ogg because it's a lossless codec, unlike ogg which is lossy,...

Jonatan he was slow... I think I clocked it at about 40 minutes, and to be honest it's the first time I've really played it. When I first got hold of it I had no sound, and given the amount of importance sound holds in Loom I figured I'd better wait until I got the sound working under Windows. And V...

Just in case you have an event like Sierra's SCI games used to report "Oops, you did something we didn't expect." huh? *grins* I can understand the point of view, nothing is ever completely bug free, though I have to admit SCUMM VM in general is a lot less buggy than any of the supported t...

Possible yes, just don't get hit by the bugger. He has a punch that would kill a tank.

Hmm from memory you don't get IQ points for defeating Sophia's guard in Atlantis using your fists (the devs probably dropped that idea in favour of a standardized outcome to the encounter, hence why he has insane HP, anyone tried to sucker punch him though?). However the guard in the Labyrinth you u...

Last I heard Mastertronic IS Sold-out software. And they're known to use Safedisk and Securom copy protection methods. Both of which the newer versions of hate forms of CD/DVD emulators and burning software they detect in memory such as Alcohol or Daemon Tools. And to answer the question asked I bel...

Length of your average adventure game question.

I know this seems like a silly question, but is it just me or do most adventure games seem really short? I sat down tonight after dinner and played through Loom, DoTT, BASS, Indy4 (Brains and Team paths), SoMI, SQ1 (SCI remake), SQ3, and it's not even midnight yet. Admittedly I had the advantage of ...

I'll have to give Waxworks a shot again. Had trouble with it and Touché (floppy) under DosBox when I tried them a while ago. Reckless you missed out, I snagged a CD version of Touché a few weeks ago on EBay to replace my disk set. Nice to get good condition originals when you can, it's just a shame ...

Hmm the "problem" might be to do with whether or not it's a the NES PAL-A, PAL-B, or NTSC release. Some games had visible differences depending on if they were PAL-A, PAL-B or NTSC releases, including palette differences and aspect ratios. I'm unsure if there were aspect ratio changes for ...

Heh on FOA and the first version you heard being the best I might be the exception that proves the rule. When I got Indy4 (Floppy) I had a SBPro 2 which utilizes the YMF262 (aka OPL-3). Now I have a SBLive! (I know I need to get around to getting a new card eventually if only for better support). I ...

If your discs are damaged then you're out of luck even trying on an old computer. Luckily though Lucasarts have rereleased COMI as a classic title, and interestingly enough it's playable without any tinkering under XP.

Well configuring soundfonts to use multiples has nothing to do with Vienna (Vienna is primarily for SF design) it's actually under AudioHQ in your control panel. Open SoundFont from there and now comes the fun part. 1 In the SoundFont dialog box, click the Configure Instrument tab. 2 In the Select B...

If my memory serves me correctly it's pretty much unique to FoA, but then the SCUMM games aren't overly heavy on combat or keyboard only control.
