That is true, but you are forgetting that you enjoy the movie in its entirety regardless if it's black and white or not. In other words, the movie flows freely. But in a dead-end game you get stuck and the flow is stuck. And if you are persistent you will keep being stuck for a long time if you dis...

I didn't say they didn't do anything right. I just suggested that dead-ends alienate a lot of people and were definitely not the way to go. The very fact that people keep coming asking about how to avoid the dreaded dead-ends says enough about these games' unfavourable reputation in that regard. Th...

But your suggesting that I am being unfriendly takes the discussion to another level, a level which I am not going to fall to. Sheesh, I wish you lived up to that promise. My initial request came after a long rationale which you ignored. You weren't supposed to reply to the request, just keep talki...

Kq6 contains at least 5 dead-ends. You're completely missing the point. Dead-ends are much more difficult to reach in KQ6, and they all warn the player that he might consider going back and pick more items. That's ultimate proof that Sierra was getting closer to Lucasarts' philosophy. You can't exp...

Sierra kept their antiquated dead-end game-design in 1992 with King's Quest 6. Undoubtedly that article only reinforces the idea instead of rejecting it. Actually, you're wrong. KQ6 is a perfect example of how Sierra learned to stop with all the accidental deaths and deadlocks. KQ6 contains only 1-...

The philosophy behind adventure game design had to develop over time. I think you're wrong calling it "poor design", and while I agree about how frustrating it could have been, most Sierra games mitigate this by keeping their games pretty short overall ("restarting" was pretty st...

Thanks to you both. I'll remember that.

I didn't get that last bit. "go back" where? where will they have me go despite what?

Thanks, guys. Really helpful.

By the way, balpat, will I be able to tell that I have the necessary items? Am I told (by a character, list, or whatever) that I'm supposed to acquire certain things?

I never minded dying in games. It's dead-ends (or non-winnable situations) that scare me. The notion of having to go back to an unknown point at the game, possibly the beginning, in order to solve something at the last level just makes me nauseous. I recently started playing older Sierra games and l...

full screen support?

Hi.

Does anyone know if there's any way to play using ResidualVM in full screen? If not, is it one of the planned features?

OK.... so getting back to the subject - will it be possible (both legally and technically) to let users who own both versions have the resources integrated so that ScummVM will support running both text and speech?

Re: SCI progress updates

I don't know how correct (legally speaking) would using that patch be for the ScummVM team. I am not a lawyer but guess they will commit most terrible crime in the world if they support that patch. :) Well, I'm sure that genocide isn't the only crime available out there, but it definitely seems to ...

Re: SCI progress updates

Also, as for the speech + subtitles feature from the latest versions: Loved it! Is it being developed for other games as well? Glad you liked it :) As stated in other threads, this feature currently works in the CD versions of SQ4 and Freddy Pharkas, and will work in the future for the CD versions ...

SCI progress updates

Hi, and congratulations on your successful release of version 1.3. I see that you are currently working on many different engines, but I was wondering if you are making any significant progress on newer SCI versions. Can you guess when will games like GK1, PQ4 and Phantasmagoria be completable? (mor...
