Re: Aspect Ratio Correction on FM Towns Games

I meant running it in the cropped format. For example, when I run the FM Towns version of Zak McKracken in ScummVM 2.6, I can tick the option to "Trim FM-TOWNS games to 200 pixel height". When I load Loom, this setting disappears from the list of options. I presumed it was specifically dis...

Re: King's Quest IV - "Ultimate Edition"

Something else I forgot to mention, is that notwithstanding the cost of hardware, PC adventure games back in the 80s were also quite expensive, even accounting for inflation. So, it is quite possible that some developers deliberately chose to make their games harder, with some really obscure puzzles...

Re: King's Quest IV - "Ultimate Edition"

Very good question. Having extensively read interviews of Sierra online staff and also the excellent adventure game blog by “The Digital Antiquarian”, I am of the opinion that this is mostly due to a lack of play testing by Sierra developers. They seldom tried playing their own games thoroughly, or ...

Re: Aspect Ratio Correction on FM Towns Games

Is there an update or estimate on how soon compatibility with Loom will make it it into the release build / master source code? I notice that compatibility with the other FM Towns LucasArts games made it across. I can see from this thread there are some lingering minor issues, which is fully underst...

Re: Blade Runner - Original SCUMMVM version back up on GOG.

That’s a relief. The “remastered” version appears to have been widely panned. Looks like it was a rush-job to cash in on the 25th anniversary of the original release.

Re: King's Quest IV - "Ultimate Edition"

That was definitely the version I used then. It seems it is the same as the one provided in the installer on the Sierra help site. You’ll see on that thread, which I won’t mention by name, that I had asked about how to improve it further, but it was a dead thread even by then. KQIV Retold does a bet...

Re: King's Quest IV - "Ultimate Edition"

Yeah, I have all of them too. :) That was the one King's Quest I seem to have fixated on in my childhood. I have the AGI version, Amiga, both SCI versions etc. One thing I would like to know is what are the differences between the 'enhanced' version that was discussed on Vogons years ago (I think th...

Re: King's Quest IV - "Ultimate Edition"

Some years ago I got the “enhanced” version of King’s Quest IV working in DOSBox. I never tried it in ScummVM. As you said, it basically took the ambient sounds from the Amiga version and patched them into the DOS SCI version of the game, also using the slightly better graphics from the 1988 1.0 SCI...

That’s really cool, thanks for sharing. I can’t get enough retro Sierra content. :)

Re: The Dig - music tracks cutting off

After some brief testing, 2.5.1 does indeed appear to fix the looping problem in The Dig. I am not sure what additional benefits the new DiMUSE implementation offers, but the music sounds good enough in the release build to stay with that for now.

Re: The Dig - music tracks cutting off

I anticipate this will be resolved in the latest bug fix release (2.5.1) but the Mac version is not yet available for download. I will test and report back as soon as it is. At the moment I am still using a 2.6.0git build.

The Dig - music tracks cutting off

I am using ScummVM 2.5.0 to play the Macintosh version of The Dig. I have noticed there is a problem that is preventing various music tracks from playing back properly. For example, some tracks will randomly cut off after anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes. When I move around between screen...

Loom - the looping music tracks in the FM Towns version

I am not expecting there to be a positive answer to this one, but does anyone know if it is possible to stop the music tracks from continuously looping in the FM Towns version of Loom? (i.e. to make it more like the PC EGA version) I find it very annoying, particularly in the opening scenes, as it i...
