I bought the big box (black Win & DOS) releases from AS's website a couple of years ago and neither came with inlays, both relied on PDFs on the disk, so I'm not sure exactly what the policy is.

It does seem as though they're avoiding printing inlays though.

The one real benefit I can see for having game creation tools for ScummVM is that the game's author instantly has access to a multiplatform distribution. AGS is pretty cool but most of the extra features are written as plugins which aren't supported outside of Windows. ScummVM, however, is available...

I'm guessing when you ripped it, you ripped it to MP3 format using variable bitrate? Sometimes this confuses it - whereas Monkey Island CD has separate tracks, Loom only has a single track, and the software locates the appropriate part of the track. If you've used VBR there is a chance it got confus...

Well, I don't know the state of the UAE port to Mac, but if you can run the UAE Amiga Emulator in a Mac environment, you should be able to boot up Workbench, mount a directory on your Mac to DH0: on the Amiga side and then drag and drop files. I know this process works in principle - it can be used ...

Unfortunately the display of the text is built into the SCUMM scripts that run Monkey Island 2 - since the game does not have speech, the text is always displayed. For most of MI2, though, you should be able to crank up the text speed, then take a copy of the background (before or after the dialogue...

My bad, I'm sorry. And me holding a computing qualification and several years programming experience should know better... Of course, it is an interpreter rather than an emulator... this sort of situation emerged a while back when Activision released the later Zork games and allowed the earli...

Even Sierra's cottoned on to the idea of using specialist emulation tools - some of the Quest games have been noted as being resold bundled with DosBOX. The only difference is that instead of having a generic emulator, ScummVM is a specialist emulator targetted at their games. They wouldn't need to ...

I saw Full Throttle & The Dig for sale in HMV in Brighton the other day - only about £6 each.

Not sure whether it's the Windows interpreter version, but I'd guess so.

Well, all of the games up to Indy 4 (so, Maniac Mansion, Zak, Monkey 1, Monkey 2, Indy 3, Indy 4, in no particular order) all ran on an Amiga 500 - which only has a 7.14MHz processor, although it's a Motorola 68000 (16 bit processor) I'd speculate even if you had a dedicated Scumm processor running ...

I actually thought that slight pause (not a full second on either the original game on my PC, nor on ScummVM, but still a noticeable pause) was actually part of the joke, that Guybrush paused for a moment before screaming in a vaguely frightened way.

use folders then... really though the compression rate of archives is so minimal its not even worth mentioning. I do use folders, and besides that's how ScummVM is geared up anyway. I'm just thinking where maybe on a small storage device where every byte might count. (I haven't got one myself, I'm ...

counter question - why does it make such a great difference to you if your game comes in one or in ~three files? (I see your point with games that come in 1,000 files, but that's the minority of games) Doesn't to me. The key point here is less about number of files but about space usage. All I was ...

There is actually an argument which kind of defeats the "helping piracy" one - ScummVM comes with a compression tool to compress the MONSTER.SOU files to OGG or MP3 format. How is compressing that down from 200+MB to 90MB (game and compressed audio quality depending) any different from sup...

Unfortunately WINE generally needs to be run on a true x86 environment - from what I understand, WINE itself is a program loader and API interpreter, meaning that it receives the calls from programs expecting to find Windows and turns them into the equivalent on Linux. E.g. if program XYZ calls a sp...

Although yes it is under forum role #0, if you have the CD version, you already improve on the floppy; the only player-noticeable difference between the two is the speech file (MONSTER.SOU) In the floppy version, the speech only runs as far as the intro, while the CD version should have full speech,...
