RickJ_Ags, actually I think we (ScummVM) pretty much know exactly the implications and ramifications of the GPL for us and game authors; we also know what we want. We don't know what CJ wants and intends, though. Of course it would be interesting to know what his specific reasons against the GPL are...

So, we should indeed remove the word "further". And then tell users to use the alphabet when they search for builds their OS ... ;)

If I was you, I'd strongly advice against a SourceForge project for this -- rather, create a github.com project. This way, it is trivial to make a fork of the current ScummVM code base, and also very easy to get your changed merged back into regular ScummVM. It also offers a simple wiki and an issue...

Yeah, I got that... and as I explained, I don't think that is possible. And even if it was: To what end? Like I said: "I've been trying to come up with a way that would allow us to have a working build of AGS under the Artistic License while also being compatible with ScummVM." And we mus...

I'm not an expert by any stretch, but I don't think you can copyright/GPL-protect an API? If someone were to write, from scratch, a class with the same interface as OSystem (even if they did this by referring to the documentation), I believe that's permitted. Of course you can copyright and license...

Depends on what you mean with "the game". The source code of the *engine*, if it contained *any* of ScummVM's GPL-only code, would have to be completely released to the public, licensed under the GPL *in addition to whatever other license you like to put on it*. On the other hand, the gam...

DISCLAIMER: I am not really arguing for or against including AGS into ScummVM, merging the projects, etc., etc. -- I just want to reply to some questions, clarify some points, explain what I think is possible and what not. So, just because I say something is difficult does not mean it is impossible;...

Hi Chris! Nice that you are here and participating in the discussion, I appreciate that :). aryah, I'm not sure why you claim this is "negative". I can't speak for aryah, of course, but I interpreted the "negative" as simply the converse of "affirmative", without a judg...

To both supmandude and envisaged0ne: Did either of you use compressed data files? If so, compressed with what? MP3, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis?

The AGS code is indeed a bit messy *cough* (no insult intended, though, I just agree with Chris Jones ;). Indeed, there is no way this could get included as-is. But since the source is open and available, it would indeed be a good opportunity to refactor it, clean it up and rewrite some of the worst...

For whatever reason it sounds like ClrMame killed someone's grandmother around here and why the hostility? Actually, I have no problem with ClrMame, if you want to use it, by all means, do so. Just don't expect me to spend tons of efforts so that you can use it, when I see no need for it. But the h...

In any case if you don't care enough to have acurate files and emulation of all this then I will have to use trial and error as well as all the data I can acurately find as to what files and make the .dat myself and give it to whomever needs it because those who create ScummVM doesn't care about th...
