Not a workaround, but the regular solution for cut scenes: The phone's / tablet's "back key" will quit the cut scene.
If it doesn't do it in this situation, there is something more wrong with this game or ScummVM with this old bug.

Don't know about later builds, but in the current Google Play Store version (1.4.0) you can select all directories that the app has access to (allowed by Android OS).
