This would probably get answered quicker in the PocketPC/WinCE port forum.

Re: Here's hoping: The Neverhood

A friend of mine recently gave me his copy of "The Neverhood", a claymation-animated 2d puzzle/adventure game released back in 1996. After some fenagling to get it to work under WinXP, I started playing it and was pleasantly surprised. It's a remarkably fun and beautiful game, and so natu...

Since this clearly isn't what ScummVM does, why use the registry? It would just make things more complicated then necessary... Because I read this at support.microsoft.com:- Description of the registry The Microsoft Computer Dictionary, Fifth Edition, defines the registry as: A central hierarchical...

An ini file works for all ports obviously.
I knew someone clever would eventually bring some clarity to this discussion!

Well, I think the main issue wasn't that the average user wants to edit the ini, it was where to store the ini so he wouldn't have to mess around with admin rights, writing permissions or parameters. Yes it was. I still think the registry should seriously be considered, after all that's what it is ...

Inofficial patches for example. You need to add the target_md5 there. Also there are still some options missing in the GUI like the sample rate, for instance, you might want to add manually. These are unsupported patches, yes? So if something does go wrong when the user is playing the game then the...

You would have to if you were using third-party translations -- or changing the ID of your CD-ROM -- or changing the audio frequency -- or defining some boot params -- or... Well, hopefully you get the idea. Yes, I think I do :) I've used neither of those things because I don't have to change any o...

Of course, changing the way ScummVM handles savegame names could possibly mean compatibility issues.... A small renaming utility could take care of this if needed for games already saved, a .BAT file or shell script for example. Changes to the source will of course be needed but I guess it wouldn't...

1st: Please don't quote entire posts, this really makes it unreadable ;) Yeah, sorry and apologies. One day I'll get the hang of using forums :) You still can count the savegame-slots, but why not before the standard extension for savegames? current example: monkey.s01 my idea: monkey01.svm or: mon...

I never have to edit the preferences file on Mac OS X so why would a Windows user have to edit the scummvm.ini by hand? Jimbob Because of target_md5 business for example? Because I rename the standard target names to get recognizable savegame names? With the current abbreviation, if you add Monkey ...

Please DON'T put it in the registry. This is a mess to handle, edit, adminster, and backup...  :!: I might be being a bit thick here but I don't understand why you'd want to edit, administer or backup the info contained in scummvm.ini. Surely the GUI generates all this information whe...

Why not the registry? Because ScummVM still likes to offer users with simple understanding of the OS to edit their options manually, if they like. Compared to what you need to know to edit an ini file, editing the registry is most certainly out of most users scope.... I never have to edit the prefe...

I still would go with the ScummVM directory itself as the place to store the ini files by default. Putting it into the Documents folder is not a bad idea, but still could lead to questions like "Where do I find it on my computer?", because it is possible to map the "Documents" t...

Re: GTA hack opens possibility for ScummVM on 2.5/2.6?

Hi. According to PSP3D they have been able to run "hello world" and a port of Tetris via a sploit or something found in the GTA game. http://www.psp3d.com Do you guys think it will be possible to run ScummVM via this? Looking at the hack a bit further, it seems the maximum executable size...
