UHD is a big help for games like Star Trek Judgment Rites, where some of the music has loud drums and cymbal crashes that overpower the other instruments. UHD seems to soften them just enough, whilst still providing a similar level of quality to the larger sound fonts such as SGM (over 200MB in size).

I have only recently started experimenting with various SF2 midi sound fonts in ScummVM and DOSBox. I entirely agree with your assessment of Timbres of Heaven and similar fonts which are too loud, unbalanced and just plain overpowering for many games. This is exactly what I have been looking for. Th...

The 256 color Macintosh releases did not use aspect ratio correction either. On a side note, the "AdvMAME" filters are almost exactly the same as the LucasArts EPX algorithm that was used to smooth the graphics in their Macintosh ports. Macintosh (640x480): http://userweb.eftel.com/~almeat...

Winnie the Pooh - graphical problem in ScummVM 2.0

I am experiencing a problem with Winnie the Pooh in the Hundred Acre Wood in ScummVM 2.0. When using OpenGL, the graphical portion of the game is displayed with a solid white bar down the right hand side of the window. Using equivalent settings in ScummVM 1.6 works normally. Versions 1.7 through 1.9...

Perhaps GOG might consider releasing all the Hi-Res titles in a compilation package (once ScummVM supports them all).

These are certainly a niche market, but an important part of computer gaming history.

Well I suppose that is a no.

They are definitely very old games but I was hoping to complete my Sierra collection, as they are the two that I cannot locate.

Trying to find functioning and uncorrupted 37 year old media is a challenge!

Sierra Hi-Res adventures - availability on modern media

On the subject of support for Sierra/Online Systems Hi-Res adventures, does anyone know if it is possible to purchase legitimate/legal copies of the Apple II versions of Ulysses and the Golden Fleece and Cranston Manor on modern media? ... i.e. without having to locate very rare and expensive origin...

CM-32L emulation

I have read some old threads and the ScummVM documentation, but it is unclear to me if the CM-32L is now fully supported via the inbuilt MUNT emulator, as opposed to the real hardware only? The Read Me only refers to the MT-32 when describing the use of ROMs. I am deciding whether to buy a CM-32L or...

I realize I am moving a bit beyond the original topic of KQV, but I think these issues are relevant for the Mac SCI games in general. After testing the Mac version of Quest for Glory, I have some additional observations for the record: When running this game natively (i.e. in Mini vMac with System 7...

I conducted some further tests and the results are as follows: 1. SheepShaver is definitely not an option. The game bombs out (literally the bomb symbol that crashes the whole system) in MacOS 7, 8 and 9. 2. The Sierra Patch is not required for QFG, and the utility will in fact not recognize it as a...

I have conducted some tests, and the results are: 1. Waltervn's 'SCI sound' build supports Quest for Glory, and the sound and music are working properly with it. 2. When the game starts, if you click a mouse button to progress past the introductory text boxes, the Sierra logo and music will be skipp...

I cannot comment on the issues with the missing logo and character select screen, but accurate audio emulation in the Mac versions of SCI games is known to be a problem even in the latest builds of ScummVM. Waltervn has developed a custom build which fixes the audio problems, as long as you are comf...

I tested the 320/228 and 4/3 settings, using the introductory Sierra logo as the point of comparison. With 4/3 the logo appears as an oval, slightly squashed on its vertical axis. With no aspect ratio correction, it appears as an oval squashed on its horizontal axis. With 320/228 it appears as a per...

When I manually edited the cpp file I replaced the 320x200 above this line: return intToFrac(4) / 3; I noticed in the change request that the new entry for 320x190 is followed by this line: return intToFrac(320) / 228 Just out of interest, will these both produce the same result from a technical per...
