Should be an issue with nasm on OS X, our configure script seems to allow our optimized hq assembly versions on OS X, though there are not updated for OS X. erik speaks the truth. when you've browsed to the game folder (so you can see the faded game files eg. dott.exe as you mention), just click the "choose" button (bottom right).

my self-built version of scummvm doesn't have this problem on my intel mac with sdl 1.2.13, i've just checked it with hq2x in fullscreen and it's fine. sorry i can't help more.
