In the case of Dungeon Master, it is possible to play a modern remake of the series, but unfortunately I believe it requires Windows in order to play. That said, it and further information on fan-remakes/clones etc for Dungeon Master can be found at http://www.dungeon-master.com/ I would also sugges...

I'm no lawyer, but I believe you can argue fair use for most of them if you ever got pushed into it. Certainly under UK copyright law you'd have a reasonable argument for it. Technically it would also be a derivative work too, but there are clauses around it being a small size/low resolution and unl...

If you'd been on the design team...

As much as I love all of the games that ScummVM runs that I've been able to get my hands on (and really adventure games in general) there are things I kind of wish the authors had done differently. So here's what I would have done differently had I been involved in the games - I'm just curious as to...

Well, SCUMM itself is an acronym and I don't remember reading anywhere that SCUMM was a trademark of LucasArts (surely if it was, it would for example state "The SCUMM(tm) Bar" in the game) As for the legal action against Digg, that was because "The Dig" (tm) is a trademark of LucasArts, as are most...

Isn't that how the Loom CD version works - it's essentially one big audio track which the game jumps back and forth with? I remember when I finally got hold of Loom CD - specifically for use with ScummVM - that I ended up ripping the audio track because there was a lag of a second or so between the ...

If the bugs are known, though, surely the ScummVM implementation can work around those bugs?

Unfortunately missing cut scenes may be a bit more problematic, but surely something could be arranged like the Broken Sword cutscenes, where they are made available via SourceForge for use with ScummVM?

They have done something recently that wasn't SW related - LEGO Indy games.

Just further proof that if you have a good enough brand (or two, in this case) you can sell it without much effort.

It is hard. First, it has to be cross platform as mentioned. Second, XMLs are not free, and you should write a parser. Although I agree the cross-platform part is the hardest, the other two issues don't seem to me to be as big. Sure, you need to have a parser, but there are parsing libraries out th...

Your suggesting not only compressed sound, but compressed data as well. Actually I was only referring to the voice files being compressed, but that was to fit within the 128MB limit. If using the 256MB limit elsewhere referred to then perhaps it could be done without any compression and run without...

If the cart has 128MB available it's even possible to get the graphic adventures on there, provided the sound file has been suitably compressed, e.g. with the compress_scumm_sou tool provided with ScummVM. I've compressed the data files from my Sam & Max and DOTT CD (White Label 2x pack from about 1...

At least under Unix-like systems, SDL tries to disable the screensaver while the program is running, though I don't think XScreenSaver cares about that. Does on Windows - both 98 and XP have been screensaver free for me. I figured it did try and do the same on Unix-like systems, but I haven't used ...

Plus, there are bugs in the original executable that means on some machines the cut-scenes will suddenly speed up for chunks for no apparent reason, meaning that some bits get missed out. It's also a whole lot more stable - the first time I played through CMI on my dad's PC 9 years ago, it must have...

What's left to do on the SCUMM games?

I was looking at the compatibility list and noticed that none of the original SCUMM games show as 100% complete. So, I'm just wondering - what do you have to do to get them up to 100%? Aside from some issues recently discussed (e.g. Indy3 Mac's sound issues, Amiga Monkey1 not having music due to lac...

If you're still getting the bug, it might be worth seeing if saving and reloading still retains the problem (i.e. if you save it while it's in a loop, then it continues to be in a loop once you reload), you could always then provide the savegame to see if there's something amiss in there. Admittedly...
