Topic: Why is the Mac build not Universal?

Well, I build ResidualVM on my PPC Mac, which should be usable on other PPC Macs going by statements made on the subject in another thread. I could upload the bundle to some space I have through my ISP and provide a link if asked nicely. jbni could also learn how to build things, which is eas...

It's funny, but an acquaintance of the Marquis de Sade once asked a similar question.

That sounds good but (and I'm speaking not as one of the devs but just as the first responder) I think the offer is better made by going to the project page http://sourceforge.net/projects/residual/ . Click on 'Develop' and then, under 'Links you may need', click on 'Send a request to join this proj...

One thing I wonder about is, how would someone interested in contributing code even get started? Of course there's the link to join the project on the SourceForge project page, and anyone can look at the source code, but is there information available on what is and what isn't known about GrimE? May...

Presumably LucasArts still has the original background art, audio files and cutscene videos. If they do, then a SE could possibly be economically very attractive, considering the amount of work that had to be done for the MI SEs.[/i]

GF wasn't designed to be modable, so at a guess I'd say probably not. That isn't to say that it wouldn't be possible, but if GF is ever going to have higher-rez models and backgrounds then I'd expect it to come as a special edition from LucasArts.

You're on a dialup connection? Ouch! Then the problem isn't so much a lack of drivers as simply needing drivers. What you almost certainly have is a softmodem. That is, a modem with very little on-board hardware for doing it's own job, and so it relies on the computer's processor and memory and need...

It's actually pretty easy to compile in Linux. The readme tells you what libraries you need. And you need the basic build tools, but getting those is no different from installing any software for your distro, and you may already have all that anyway. But creating an installer package, that's harder....

That's good to hear, but still I want it now now now . :D Actually, I just want to play with the GUI and it'll be interesting if I run into any strange problems trying to compile. When I get around to trying. Nope. No problems. ./configure && make && make bundle. Done. No surprises. ...

So no intention to actually have a Universal build of the tools, I guess. Oh, well. I'll just have to roll my own, then.

The Mac version of the 1.1.0 tools is supposedly Universal--according to the download page--but the binary inside the archive is definitely Intel-only.

They may not, considering these games are paid for by license fees. On the other hand, it probably won't really matter. I'm sure I don't have to spell it out.
